In her life, there'd been many times when Yujin had disliked her animal form. Especially when she was younger, she had hoped that she could've done some drastic changes within herself. As a kid, she had been more social with other doublers, and most of her friends had been blessed with cool animal forms, and all Yujin wanted was to be like those cool kids.
It wasn't particularly cool to be a harvest mouse. Yes, people who saw her in her animal form couldn't get over the fact that she was so cute and tiny but being called cute and tiny wasn't a useful characteristic. Being cute and tiny did nothing to protect her. Being cute and tiny turned everything into a potential threat.
When Yujin found her way out of her clothes that had turned into an endless sea of fabric after she had shrunk to the size of a thumb, she stood on her miniscule hind legs and looked up.
Now that she weighed less than a small lollipop, the dog was enormous compared to her, like a mountain. While Yujin remained completely in control of her animal side, the mouse within her was afraid of the large being in front of her.
The dog stared at her. He lowered his head first, exaggeratedly slowly, probably to not worry her, before lying down to the floor in a careful manner. Yujin appreciated that since the dog was easily big enough to kill her accidentally.
Harvest mice didn't have a very good eye sight but once the dog's face was closer, Yujin could see the awed expression on his face. His eyes were sparkling, and Yujin could hear that his huge tail was wagging, though she couldn't see it.
The mouse scurried right in front of the dog, while he followed her tiny footsteps with his gaze. She stopped in front of his healthy paw and stood on her hind legs again. Her whiskers twitched as she reached her teeny paw and placed it on top of his extensive white one. For a second, she looked at her light brown paw on top of his, before craning her neck in order to look up to his face.
She felt the air with her whiskers, trying to catch a sense of his human and animal levels. It was difficult because she didn't know him and had to work hard to even grasp the feeling, but luckily the other doubler didn't try to hide anything from her.
Once she found what she was looking for, Yujin closed her eyes, concentrating on him and the two sides of the same coin.
Obviously, the animal side was dominating every inch of his aura but when she strained her senses, she could feel his human presence as well. She tried to reach for it, to get closer but the dog was on the way.
When she felt around the dog's presence, Yujin could easily see that anxious fear was stopping him from letting the human come through. The doubler in front of her was confused, scared and worried, and the animal side of him was feeling too uncertain to let the human take control.
The doubler's human side was trying to reach out and regain control of his body, Yujin could feel his determination on her ears but the dog within him blocked all of his attempts.
The dog in front of Yujin let out a frustrated growl, and Yujin flinched, surprised by the sudden sound in the otherwise quiet apartment. She opened her pitch-black eyes, considerably darker compared to her human eyes, and faced the dog.
He whined apologetically. She patted his paw in reassurance, and his eyes softened, but she just shook her head. Their attempt wasn't going too well and based on how fearful the animal side of him was, she wouldn't be able to convince him to change back.
Yujin waved her paw to him before turning around and running to the blanket she had thrown to the floor. They could try to change at the same time, though she didn't feel too hopeful about it. Despite him acting calm around her, something had shaken him to the core, and she had no means to force him out of it.
