It had been another week and a half, Regina had been visiting her parents that week so the pair didn't see each other. Emma was convinced that Regina went so they couldn't talk. Today, Emma was spending time with her father. They were sat at the island, eating breakfast as normal.
"So, you and Regina seem to be getting along well" John said with a smile, happy his daughter and wife don't fight.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, she's really nice. Why wouldn't we get along, I mean, she is my age" Emma replied with a slight laugh, putting her spoon in her mouth.
"I know it's weird, me being married to someone your age but it's for a business deal" John chuckled, knowing the blonde still finds it strange.
"Yeah, I know. So, are you going to be married to her forever then or what" Emma asked curiously, knowing she can't have Regina in her family forever.
"I don't know, her father was very insistent on us staying together for the business. I think it's just because he doesn't want Regina marrying a woman, he mentioned something about her coming out to them and him not liking it. I don't blame him for that, to be honest" John explained in his response, walking around the island to put his bowl in the sink.
"So, would you do the same as him if I came out as gay" Emma questioned, trying to hide the fact she felt a little offended by that.
"I don't really know what I'd do. After Carl and everything that happened with that, I don't trust them" John replied, referring to the man who crashed the car with his wife in.
Emma wanted to argue what her father's point was but she knew there wasn't away for her to change his mind. She knew that was his way of coping with his wife's death, blame it on someone who was responsible. AKA, a gay man who drove and crashed the car.
"That's fair enough" Emma said honestly, knowing you can't change people's minds like a switch.
"I did find out some juicy information though. Mr Mills isn't actually Regina's father, he's her step father. When Regina found out, she threatened to leave the Mills family and run away" John shared quickly, still shocked by the information he knew.
"What? She threated to leave just because he's her step dad? Regina's not that dramatic" Emma questioned in confusion, unsure how she never knew any of this.
"I think something bad happened in that house. For example, if you hug Regina and touch a certain place in her back, she'll flinch and move away. There's no mark or anything on her back which makes me think it's a mental scar, not physical" John replied, knowing he is always worried when hugging her.
"I noticed that too, when she hugged me I mean" Emma said quickly, thinking back to when they were kids.
"I don't want to assume anything, of course, but she was ready to pack and leave the family the day she found out" John added with a curious face, wanting to know everything that's happened.
Emma thought about what her father said, it answered a few questions from when they were kids. At one point, Regina told Emma she wanted to move into the abandoned house before they had even started building it. Another time, they were having sex and Regina freaked out when Emma's hand brushed that certain place on Regina's back. As a kid, she didn't think much into them but now she knew this, she began to worry a lot.
"I hope she's ok" Emma simply said, worried as the brunette was at her parents now.
"I'm sure she is, we are probably just reading too much into it" John said with a chuckle, knowing the pair always read too far into a situation. He put his daughters empty bowl in the sink before heading towards the door. "Let's get dressed and we can start the day"
"Sounds good" Emma said with a small smile, following the man out.
They went upstairs and split to go to their separate bedrooms. Once Emma was in hers, she pulled her phone out and began calling Regina. It went to voicemail after two rings. Emma frowned at the fact she was hung up on, worrying her a little. She then messaged her.
Emma: hey, you ok?
After a few seconds or so, Emma got a message back from the brunette.
Regina: I'm fine, why?
Emma: can you call me?
Regina: no, I'm with my dad. What do you want?
Emma: I just wanted to make sure you're ok
Regina: and I said I'm fine, I have to go
Emma was still worried but decided not to say anything more as it was obvious the brunette was annoyed. She got dressed and headed downstairs, meeting John at the door. They spent the whole day today, catching up and enjoy all the stuff they use to when Emma was young. She tries to visit as often as she can but it's hard with both of them working lots and Emma building the house. It was 6:43pm when they arrived home, laughing at a stupid joke John told.
"You're so weird, dad" Emma said, laughing and rolling her eyes at the man.
"But that was funny" John added, walking through the front door already opened for him. Stood by the door was Britney, waiting with a smile for their coats. "There you are, thanks"
"My pleasure, sir. Madam has returned earlier today and asked for no one to enter her wardrobe, she wishes to be alone" Britney formally informed the man, giving him a respectful nod.
"Is she ok" John asked with a small amount of worry, knowing the brunette doesn't usually do that.
"She said she is fine but wishes not to be disturbed by anyone" Britney replied, taking Emma's jacket as well.
"Strange but I shall respect her wishes. Emma, do you want me to stay and keep you company tonight instead of going out with the boys" John asked in a soft tone, not wanting to leave her bored and alone.
"Oh no, dad, it's fine. Go and have fun, I'm tired anyway" Emma replied with a smile, heading towards the stairs.
John chuckled and smiled back at her, heading towards the kitchen. He was going to eat first and then go out for drinks. Emma went up the stairs and straight to Regina's wardrobe, walking in without knocking.
"Get out" Regina demanded in a stern voice that cracked a little, her back to whoever was at the door.
"Gina, what's wrong" Emma softly asked, closing the door as she stepped in more.
"I said, get out" Regina redemanded, sniffling a little to hide the crack in her throat.
"No, not when you're crying. I've been worried about you all day and I come home to find you like this" Emma sighed softly, walking over a little more but not all the way.
"Why have you been worried, I said I was fine" Regina huffed, bringing her knees closer to her chest.
"One, no one who is fine says they're fine. Two, I found out some stuff that made me worry" Emma replied with a scared look, moving to sit beside the woman. As she looked at Regina, she saw nothing by fear all over her tear stained face. "What happened"
"I'm pregnant" Regina quickly said in a cracked voice, letting more tears out.
"What? With my d-"
"No"
"I don't know what's worse, you being pregnant with my dad's baby or you being pregnant with someone else's baby" Emma said with a look to show she was half confused, half shock. Regina began shaking more as tears built up inside her. Emma had only ever seen Regina like this once and she never did find out the reason why. "Regina, what happened" Emma asked in a tone filled with worry for what's going on.
"Something bad happened... Something really, really bad"
