“What happened to you?” Biana asked as Sophie walked over to her friends.

“Didn’t...get a lot of...sleep...was up….training...with Ro.” Sophie said in between yawns. She’d only been able to sleep a measly six hours that night. And when she had woken up her hair had been a mess of tangles and the dark circles under her eyes looked like caterpillars. So she reluctantly had allowed Verina to tell her how to style her hair which was now tied in a tight messy but cute bun at the top of her head, and some kind of light powder made it almost impossible to see the dark circles.

“You guys are ridiculous! You probably got like six hours of sleep.” Ro retorted.

“Six hours!” Biana, Dex, Linh, Marell, and Fitz all said at once. Even Tam who usually didn’t care about anything looked shocked.

“Yeah.” Sophie answered through a yawn.

“Wow. Ro and Keefe must’ve been at your house for a long time.” Biana said, sharing a look with Marella and Linh. But at that moment Sophie couldn’t care any less.

“You should’ve seen them go. They acted like they had just eaten a bag of sugar.” Ro snickered.

“Them?” Fitz asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah. Blondie here decided she wasn’t going to let  Hunkyhair off the hook and forced him to join in the fun.” Ro answered, giving Fitz a smug look. Sophie could’ve sworn she heard someone quietly squeal but she ignored it.

“Is that why Keefe looks like he just got hit by a bus?” Tam asked with a smile in his voice.

“Hey, it’s not like Foster looks any better.” Keefe countered. Sophie looked up at him and couldn’t hold in her laugh. His hair had gone from a disheveled style to a flat and limp bedhead, and his ice blue eyes were bloodshot with circles that looked like bruises.

“Well at least Sophie thought to put some effort into her appearance. You look super fierce by the way.” Biana whispered the last part in Sophie’s ear. She tried to smile but even her jaw muscles hurt. As the morning announcements began Sophie realized that Fitz was staring at her. She gave him a small timid smile and went back to massaging the back of her neck. Once they were dismissed she started to head to her locker. But halfway there her muscles ached and she had to lean on Dex for support.

“So how did things go with Keefe last night?” Biana asked. Sophie noticed her teal eyes had a glint of envy in them as she stared at the arm Dex had wrapped around Sophie’s waist.

“What do you mean?” Sophie asked, stepping away from Dex and opening her locker.

“You know what I mean.” Biana said, crossing her arms. Sophie just rolled her eyes.

“Things went fine, Biana. But I can’t say the same with Fitz,” Sophie tried to whisper the last part to herself but Biana must have heard.

“What?” Biana asked, her eyes narrowing into little slits.

“Nothing.” But Sophie could see Biana was not backing down “He was trying to tell me something in Telepathy yesterday but then Tirgan interrupted us and I ran away after session so that he couldn’ talk to me afterwards.” Sophie rambled out. She waited to see Biana’s reaction and was completely surprised when her friend seemed almost angry.

“Don’t worry I’ll take care of him. You just keep having fun with Keefe. See you at lunch.” Biana said. She rushed away before Sophie could protest or even get one syllable out.
