Sophie’s dream

Sophie opened her eyes to find herself in a beautiful flower field. She stood up and surveyed the area. Beyond the field there was a forest with tall colorful trees and bushes. Some movement caught her attention out of the corner of her eye and she turned in that direction. She saw a beautiful elegant bird soaring through the sky. She had a sudden urge that she needed to be with the bird like they were somehow connected. She stood up and made her way towards the bird. The bird flew into the forest, and Sophie followed. After about five minutes of walking the forest split into two paths and the bird disappeared. Sophie felt her instincts draw herself towards the right path and she took it. From there on there were about five different forks in the path and her instinct chose each one for her. Finally she saw the bird but only for a second before it disappeared. She blinked and when she opened her eyes again there was a steel door just standing there. Sophie felt drawn to it and curiosity filled her. She opened the door and entered a dark cold room. A balefire torch suddenly lit up, illuminating the room in dim blue light. Sophie gasped when she saw what the room contained. Bodies. Bodies of everyone she had ever loved. Her human family, her adopted parents, her friends, all the adults that had ever helped her in the lost cities, the black swan, and surprisingly all of the councillors. Then when she turned around she saw a golden bird cage. There was the bird, and that’s when she realized what the bird was.

“A Moonlark.” Sophie whispered.

“Yes.” A whispery voice answered “And this is what will happen. Cause you will always make the wrong choices, and I will find out why.” Sophie started to scream as the world around her flickered and fuzzed. She sank into a pit of darkness. Then she stopped falling and fell into something like...water. Then she woke up.

Sophie POV(back to where we left out)

“What do you mean in your head?” Fitz asked, his words were laced with concern. But Sophie could’ve sworn she saw him glare at the hand that Keefe was holding. Sophie nodded and concentrated on taking shaky breaths. She wrapped her arms around herself and buried her face in her knees. She felt soft delicate hands rubbing her back as she told them all about her terrible dream. When she got to the part about falling into water she could’ve sworn she saw Linh shoot a glare at Keefe. Silent tears fell down her cheeks as her friends stared at her with worry.

“Let's get you to Elwin.” Biana whispered, helping Sophie to her feet. Sophie leaned against Biana and Marella as they made their way to the healing center.

“How can I..” Elwin started, his eyes widening when he saw who was at the door. Elwin led Sophie and her friends over to a cot and helped Sophie lay down. She closed her eyes and tried to calm herself as Elwin flashed colored lights around her head.

“What happened now?” Elwin asked, smiling playfully but Sophie could see the worry in his eyes.

“They were in my head.” She answered. Elwin froze.

“How?” The physician asked. Sophie just shrugged and closed her eyes. She was tired. Really, really tired. She just wanted to sleep. Slip into the familiar darkness and never come back up for air. She felt a sharp pain in her shoulder and her eyes shot open. Her friends were staring at her with pure worry in their expressions.

“What?’ She asked them.

“What do you mean what?” Marella asked “You just blacked out for like ten minutes!” Sophie’s eyes widened.

“Really?” Her friends all nodded their heads “Huh. That’s weird.” Sophie tried to think of what would’ve caused her to do that but she hadn’t even thought any time had passed.

“I didn’t even think any time had passed.” Sophie said. Then she remembered the dream and shrunk away from them all.

“I’m dangerous. You all have to stay away.” Sophie warned, attempting to stand but instead collapsing on the floor. Keefe and Fitz rushed towards her but she held her hands up in protest and steadied herself on the cot.

“What do you mean dangerous?” Grady asked from the doorway as Edaline rushed towards her and started examining her and asking her if she was Ok. Biana began to explain the dream. Grady and Edaline faces paled as she told the story. Sophie sighed and stepped away from them.

“See. I’m not safe, and why are you guys here?” Sophie asked, remembering that she was still at Foxfire.

“Elwin called us when you wouldn’t wake. And I still don’t see why you’re not safe.” Grady answered, getting back to the point.

“The dream...wasn’t really a dream...at least I think I don’t think it was…I think it was more of a..prediction.” Sophie said, not meeting anyones eyes.

“So..you’re saying you think that what you saw behind that metal door..that’s what’s going to happen to us?” Dex asked, trying to understand what she was saying. Sophie nodded her head and hid behind her hair.

“Honestly, I don’t see what the big deal is. I mean I might be kinda new to this but I’m pretty sure you guys have always known that you were heading into life or death situations. So this really isn’t anything new.” Marella said.

“Yeah but...this is different.” Sophie said hugging herself.

“How?” All of her friends asked in unison. Sophie sighed.

“Because it would be my fault.” She whispered. Arms immediately wrapped around her.

“It won't be your fault Sophie.” Her adoptive Mother whispered. Sophie tried to convince herself, because she knew what guilt could do to elves, but the guilt still tugged at her stomach. She felt more arms wrap around her filling her with strength and warmth.

“I’m sorry. I guess I panicked.” Sophie said, pulling away from them and giving them her most reassuring smile. They didn’t look too convinced but after Elwin gave her a quick look over and told her she would be going home for the rest of the day they all said goodbye and went back to school. When Sophie got home she took an extra long shower and laid in bed.

“Are you still awake?” Edaline questioned, as she cracked Sophie’s door open. She sat up and motioned for Edaline to come inside. Edaline came in bearing a plate stacked with custard bursts.

“I thought these might make you feel better.” Edaline said, setting the plate down on the bed. They smelled like mocha and french vanilla. And when Sophie took a bite they tasted absolutely divine.

“Thank you.” Sophie said, stuffing the rest in her mouth. Edaline smiled and watched as Sophie continued to eat.

“Are you sure you’re Ok? I mean I’m not exactly sure what happened today. But no matter what happens I want you to know that it’s not you..”

“I know, and I promise I’m Ok.” Sophie reassured her “I just need a good night's sleep.” She smiled. Edaline smiled back and placed her hand on Sophie’s shoulder.

“I hope you do.” Edaline said. Once Sophie had finished the custard burts Edaline kissed her cheek goodnight, turned off the lights, and left the room. Sophie laid down and pulled the blankets up to her neck.

“They were in my head.” Sophie whispered “How were they in my head?” Then she slipped into a nightmare filled sleep.

Yeah, how did they get in there anyway? Well I guess we'll find out soon...comment and like - Livvy
