This Chapter is a little longer and I hope you like it! Only a few more chapters until her Winnowing Gala - Livvy

Keefe’s POV

“Anyone know where Sophie is?” Biana asked as she rushed over to their table. Keefe examined the lunch room. He hadn’t seen Sophie since that morning and her emotions had seemed pretty...blah. Not like the normal Foster roller coaster of emotions. She had almost felt numb...but in a way that felt so much heavier then any actual emotions.

“I haven’t seen her. Maybe we should go see if she is ok.” Fitz suggested just as Keefe was about to suggest it as well. All of the friends got up and decided to divide and conquer. Biana and Keefe went together and walked in silence for a long time.

“So, when are you gonna make your move?” Biana asked nonchalantly. Keefe froze and gave her a look of skepticism.

“What move?” He asked cautiously. Biana rolled her eyes and grumbled something about boys.

“Your move on Sophie. Are you waiting for the Winnowing Gala? Cause I’m pretty sure every guy there will be trying to sweep her off her feet too.” Biana said, as she peeked her head in a doorway and scanned the room for Sophie.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Keefe lied, sticking his hands in his pockets.

“Of course you don’t.” Biana said sarcastically with a groan. They made their way outside in silence.

“All I’m saying is, you’re not the only one who likes her and I honestly think you two are meant for each other, but other people aren’t exactly…”

“Biana, you can stop right there. It’s never going to happen. I’m the empath, remember?” He interrupted.

“I think you should listen to the Sparkle Queen. I agree with her, and you don’t wanna lose your chance. Since I’m pretty sure Pretty Boy…” Ro was interrupted by a dreadful scream. Keefe whipped around and raced toward the sound. He knew that scream. It was Sophie. Ro followed not too far behind him while Biana yelled for the rest of their friends. The screams continued. Keefe finally spotted her laying down in a grassy clearing.

He raced to her and fell to his knees by her side. She was glistening with sweat but felt cold to the touch.

“Sophie, wake up!” Keefe shouted, shaking her shoulders. She continued to thrash and wouldn’t stop no matter what he did.

“Here let me try.” Ro insisted, shoving Keefe out of the way. She said something in a language that Keefe assumed was Ogre in Sophie’s ear, and when that didn’t work she slapped Sophie in the face. Even that didn’t work. Finally Biana caught up with the rest of the group and they all tried to find ways to help Sophie.

“I can’t get into her mind.” Fitz panted, after resting his fingers on Sophie's temples for about a minute.

“I’ll go get Elwin.” Tam said and rushed inside. Sandor tried to pick Sophie up to take her to Elwin but her thrashing made it too difficult. Flori sang songs of peace and happiness in Sophie’s ear, but nothing helped.

“Get out! Get out!” Sophie screamed, pure terror and desperation in her voice. Keefe’s eyes burned. He wanted to help her, and would do anything if he could put himself into her place, but he couldn’t. So he just sat there and helplessly watched her suffer, and no matter how many mental breezes he sent he couldn’t help her. The weird thing was Keefe couldn’t feel any emotions coming from her. She felt peaceful but he would worry about that later.

A desperate painful cry escaped Sophie’s lips and her eyes shot open, only to roll back into her head seconds later. She laid perfectly still and stopped thrashing.
