Sophie POV
Sophie moaned and licked her dry and chapped lips. Sweat trickled down her back and face and burned her eyes. The room was hot and cold at the same time and Sophie almost thought her toes had been bitten by frostbite. She slipped in and out of consciousness as people entered and exited the room. It was the same old routine everyday; draw blood, run tests, leave, draw blood, run tests, leave. The cycle never ended and every once in a while they would give her a small cup of youth. Her arms were almost purple from all of the bruises that had been caused by the countless needles piercing her skin. She was sure she looked half as bad as she felt but she didn’t care. After about seven days of living in this prison she’d stopped caring about anything. She didn’t care if they saved her, she didn’t care if they kept her as an experiment, she didn’t even really care if they killed her at this point. Because it hurt so bad. Her brain, her body, even her . . heart.
Keefe POV
Another day.
More arguments.
More tears.
More empty promises.
That was how things were now. It had been a little over two weeks since Sophie had been taken and they still hadn’t made any progress in finding her. Edaline and Grady had begun to sink into their grief, Fitz wasn’t talking to anyone, Tam Linh and Marella were usually silent, and Dex and Biana were constantly thinking and searching for answers. As for Keefe, he was still staying at Havenfield but he never got any sleep, and when he did it was because he had cried himself to sleep. During the day he sat on the coach and listened as the collective and sometimes the council debated and discussed for hours on end. Keefe couldn’t do this anymore. So finally when he had had enough of debates for one day he went back down to the caves for some privacy . . even though Ro had still insisted on going with him.
“It’s nice here. Even though . . yah know,” Keefe turned around to see Dex striding towards him with Lovsie right behind him.
“Oh, hi I didn’t see you there,” Keefe quickly dried his tears and smiled a tired smile. Dex smiled a sad smile back and sat next to him on the sand.
“Yah, Hunkykair has been too distracted by the thought of his long lost love,” Ro joked, but Keefe caught the slight twinge of sadness in her voice. Dex smiled a pathetically sad smile at Ro’s remark and nudged Keefe’s shoulder. Keefe laughed but was soon back in his mid set of despair.
“It’s nice and quiet out here,” Dex commented. Keefe nodded and took in the soothing sound of the rolling waves and serene silence. As the silence continued Dex stood and began to walk closer to the cave.
“Does something about this cave seem . . . off to you?” Dex asked suspiciously. Keefe stood up and joined him.
“Yeah, I noticed something a little off the other day, but I didn’t look too much into it,” Keefe shrugged and turned back to look at the ocean. The silence continued until Keefe heard Dex gasp. Keefe whipped around and watched as waved his hand through the air and . . . it buffered.
Biana POV
Biana brushed her fingers through her unusually tangly hair and sighed as she leaned her back against the pristine white wall.
When will this end
I’m really getting sick of all the arguing
I miss Sophie so much
Biana’s thoughts were interrupted by a buzzing and a light pink glow out of the corner of her eye. She lifted her panic ring to confirm it had been the source. But, she noticed no one else's panic rings had gone off so she quickly and silently slunk outside. She used Dex’s new fancy feature to track where the ring had come from and it led her to . . the cliff? How was she supposed to get down there?
“Going somewhere?” Baian spun around to see Woltzer standing behind her with a raised eyebrow.
“How did you know I was gone?”
“Because even though you can become invisible your smell is very strong,” Biana grimaced and self consciously wrapped her arms around herself, as though that could trap in her scent.
“Care to answer my question?” Woltzer asked. Biana sighed and gestured towards the gate.
“I got a panic signal from down there and I am trying to figure out how to get down there,” Woltzer nodded and approached the gate. He studied it for a minute before leaning down and grabbing the bottom of the gate.
“I don’t think that’s gonna . .” Biana was interrupted but the clang of metal as Woltzer forced the gate up. Creating a small enough gap for them to crawl into.
“Nevermind. That worked great,” Biana got down on her knees and slid under. Woltzer followed not far behind her. They walked down the steep staircase that eventually led to the beach. Biana scanned the sandy lands until her eyes landed on to handsome young elves standing in front of a cave. She raced towards them.
“Hey guys! I got your message. What’s wrong?” Biana looked around to see if any cloaked figures could be detected but nothing came into view.
“We think we know where Sophie is,”
