IT'S harvesting season.
Abeonim and emmeonim along with the rest of the farmers will harvest the grains. I volunteer to help. My body crave for work.
Its been two weeks since I woke up. They treated me warmly and accepted me like their own distant relative. A feeling I dreamed of living a normal life and being a normal teenager.
I wanted to repay them being useful in any means possible. I cleaned and organize the house since they're out. Kang Ae Ra's going to school early and she's usually home a bit late.
Fix the things needed to be fixed. Abeonim and emmeonim spend their day in the rice field and into the nearby greenhouse. The town organize a greenhouse for every villagers so that they still can have vegetables even during the autumn and winter season. That's why they don't have enough time for these.
"Ya..." One of the farmers commented seeing me lift some sacks of grains. Eommeonim did the same still they got an eyes on me. I'm the only minor among the group.
"She got a touch." Other older farmer seconded. They even teases me that I'm more manly and stronger than the young men in their village.
"God sent her here as a substitute to my son." Abeonim proudly said that earn him a tease as well. Winking at me secretly. Emmeonim hides her feeling but didn't escape a faint smile on her lips.
Me, I remain silent as always. Though I give some faint gestures, its safer not to talk and rather play. They already assumed that I got no memories. Who does after my tragic situation?
We sat together and spend the beauty of nature under the huge ancestral tree. They said that its been standing there for five hundred years. If the tree could talk it has a lot of stories to tell.
Enthusiastically we eat our lunch together. We shared our food and eat it with content. They even had some rice wine with them. I didn't escape as well. They let me taste it and experience the bittersweet in it which I find it great.
They sang and did some countryside dancing. Abeonim got a nice voice. No wonder why eommenim fall for him.
After we finished harvesting. We bid our goodbye but before that the ladies of the village already had set an appointment. Their annual kimchi making. Fresh lettuce were ready for harvesting. So every household must have enough supply of kimchi for the whole year.
"Aren't you bored Yeon Heeya?" Abeonim take me out from my own reverie. My mind was stock on the annual kimchi making. I'm a bit ecstatic knowing that I'll be participating. I never had any experience making a kimchi though I've enjoyed it eating a lot. I can't eat without kimchi nowadays.
Like how I love dried fish and fermented fish. We called it ginamos with chili and lemonsito. A local type of lemon in the Philippines. My mouths watering already just by the thought of it.
And by the way they named me Yeon Hee. I got no name so they gave me one. Its better they don't have to call me oi or ya.
A bit but I've been enjoying my seclusion lately. Especially when I've been able to sleep whenever I want.
I gesture him a little.
"You can take the bike. Go and take a stroll. Your young you need to enjoy yourself once in a while." He offers handing me his bike.
I glance at eommoni. Asking her opinion. We still have to prepare our dinner.
She move her hands gesturing me to go. "Ka, you can fetch Aera if you want." She suggest that brought my lips into a wider smile.
