Chapter 31-

Recap-

Tens and hundreds of lifeless bodies, littered all around the pack house. And all because of me.

I sniffled as I felt something in my palm. Another note. Probably from brother dearest.

Surprise Surprise!

I decided that I would spare your life, since it's your birthday and all. But I had to give you something. So here's a little early birthday present little sister.

Enjoy! ;)

"How many?"

"354, sir."

"How are we going to bury that many?"

"I-I don't know, sir."

I sighed, slumping beside the door as I listened in on the conversation outside.

354 innocent lives lost. And for what? Nothing. We lost a quarter of the pack. There was no specific age group. Children, teenagers, adults. Everyone.

354 dead. Because of me.

After the scene outside, there was a lot of commotion in the pack. People having lost a lot of their friends and family. They were scared. Scared they could be next. Colton's dad, the alpha, had to calm them down with much difficulty. Took about an hour to talk to them and send them home, assuring them they were safe. But even we didn't know if that was true.

After sending everyone home, we all came back upstairs to the meeting hall, having a lot to discuss. Everyone was in shock, still are. Colton especially, losing a lot of his pack. And I, well, I don't know what to feel. Scared, angry, lost? I don't know anymore.

Sitting here, lost amidst my thoughts, I almost considered handing myself over. At least no more innocent lives will be lost.

Uma was right, I am nothing compared to my brother. I am a rat, looking to be crushed by the lion. The king. And in front of him, I am nothing. Going into the woods and provoking him was a mistake. Maybe I should've just let them handle things and stayed in a corner. As I was thought to years ago by my parents. But I could never learn to suppress the raging storm inside of me. And now it's coming back to bite me in the ass.

I closed my eyes and rest my head against the wall. Taking in a deep breath, I cleared my mind and tried to calm the inner storm, which was once again clawing at my insides to be free.

Breathe in. Breathe out.

I was snapped out of my useless attempts to calm down when someone plopped down next to me.

I looked at him raising an eyebrow.

"You don't have to blame yourself."

"I'm not." I stated in a monotone voice and faced away from him, looking at the people in the room. Stressed and broken. Like me.

They were running around, trying to figure out what to do.

"Sure you're not." He mumbled shuffling closer to me.

I rolled my eyes and didn't bother to reply.

The door slammed open and in came the alpha. Everyone gathered around him, asking him what decision he made. We had to do something about the bodies after all.

I heard a deep sigh and a grunt before I saw a hand in my view.

"Come on," he said looking down at me with his hand extended for me.
