Chapter 26

I turned and limped a few feet behind the tree where I started the fire and crouched down behind a large tree. I was close enough to watch, but also far enough to be safe.

And now, I wait for the right moment and strike.

I could feel the heat from the fire. It was growing. Fast.

Closing my eyes, i raised my hand and did a spell Atticus taught me.

It is a protection spell.

So, even though the trees are on fire, they will undergo no damage. They will burn for as long as the fire burns but as soon as the fire goes out, they will be fine. Not a scratch.

The people who shot me seem to be startled by the fire. They were trapped in the middle of it. Their frantic attempts at escaping were futile as the fire grew in on them.

My vision started getting blurry and I could see black at the corner of my eyes.
I turned and sat with my back against the tree, cradling my injured arm and thigh.

The voices in the background slowly started to fade as well. I tried to fight it, I really did. But there is only so much a girl can take.

Not five seconds later, I felt myself falling as I lost control of my body.
Before my vision faded completely, I saw a blurred figure coming towards me.

And then I couldn't hold on anymore.

I was in pain.

I knew that much.

Why? Or how? That, I had no idea.

I could feel that I was on something warm and soft. I knew I was asleep and I was trying to wake myself up; but my eyes just wouldn't open.

Then I felt as if there were people around me. I could hear murmurs and whispers of voices that seemed far yet so close to me.

I tried moving my hand and felt it twitch a little.

As I slowly got control over my body, I could finally open my eyes.

It wasn't bright, but my head still hurt.

"She's awake!"

"Shh! You'll startle her!"

I groaned as I tried and pushed myself up on my elbows.

My vision was still blurry so I blinked and rubbed my eyes a little and I could see clearly again.

Hovered around me where the guys and Tammy.

"What happened?" I asked, my voice hoarse.

"You passed out because you lost a lot of blood." Tammy stated.

"Why?" I asked, trying to remember what happened.

"You don't remember?" Rhodey asked, his eyebrows furrowed.
