"Are you sure you cna't stay home?"

"I can't skip today, no matter how much I want to," I gently touched Hercules' cheek with my hand, cupping it as I gazed into his brown eyes.  "I'll get out as early as possible, but you know how my shifts go."

"I know," he deeply sighs and leans into my hand more.  He places his hand over mine and closes his eyes.

"Just take care of Laf today.  I'll be back before you know it," I kiss him softly before he could continue to retaliate.

We separate and I let my hand drop.  "Good luck at work."

"Thank you," I smiled weakly at the man, turning to the kitchen and grabbing my lunch.  "I love you."

"I love you, too," Hercules mumbles, watching as I walked out the door with my keys in my hands.

Devouring my lunch next to Julie was enjoyable, texting Hercules and asking how everything is going.  I knew I had many things to do today, my feet already hurting from the clogs fitting my feet.  I could smell the sweat that dried as I sat there, chugging my water and eating my poor excuse of a lunch (sandwich, chips, and some veggies).

"Laurens, we need you to cover the pit," my co-worker, Garen, speaks as he steps in front of me.

"I have too many patients to go down there," I didn't look up from my phone as I took another bite of my sandwich.

"Look, it's important.  Ray said he couldn't come in because of something, and we can't leave the stupid interns to do stuff," I finally looked up from my phone to see Garen leaning over the table.

"Fine, but you owe me," I pointed my sandwich at him.  "Give me five minutes.  And find me a surgeon that won't piss me off downstairs."

"Deal," he started walking away.

"And find someone to cover my patients!" I called out.

Garen waved a hand as he continued to walk away, leaving me to finish my lunch in barely five minutes.  I rolled my eyes and glanced back at my phone, taking another bite of my sandwich.  Hercules said Laf was upset, but everything had calmed down and he was trying to distract Laf with games and TV.  Sighing, I finished my sandwich and texted him that he was doing a good job, saying how I might be slightly late but won't know until later.

I shoved my food down my throat before standing, grabbing my lunch bag and throwing it into my locker.  I slid my phone into my pocket and walked out of the lounge, heading towards the ER.  I was quick to get pulled onto a case, my boss Yumi demanding people around and pulling me into the loop.

Hours passed and the ER calmed enough for me to sit down for a few minutes after surgery as a surgical nurse.  I leaned back in my chair behind the nurse desk and flashed Julie a smile as she sat beside me.

"How's it going?" She asked as she leaned into the chair.

"My feet hurt," I groaned and swirled my chair around.  "I want to go home."
