- Alexander Hamilton's POV -
- Modern AU -

I adjusted the tie that wrapped around my neck as the limo slid into the driveway.  The silence that was held between myself and the date I had brought discomfort.  The car came to a stop and I stepped out first.  I opened the door and held it, letting my date step out to show off the gorgeous dress she was wearing.  The light blue sequins that glowed in the light sparkled as many photographs were taken.  It was a well-known party we were attending, after all.

The skin-tight dress that Eliza wore flowed down past her knees with the heels she wore that exaggerated her height.  Her eyes sparkled as her arm was taken in mine.  We walked together down the carpet to the entrance where a lady with a clipboard stood.

"Name?" She demanded, security surrounding the doors.

"Alexander Hamilton and Eliza Schuyler," Eliza replied kindly.

The flip of her hair signaled for the security to let us through.  The doors were opened for us, so I let my date go through first.  I followed soon after, and the feeling of wanting to leave the party dreaded inside of my mind.

"So the pool room was that way," Eliza pointed out as we walked in.  We handed our coats to the workers that placed them in a secluded place.  "And that is where we'll find our jackets.  I heard there are a bar and a dance floor."

I listened as she chatted about to herself.  I looked around at the surrounding guests that wore outfits that must cost more than my crummy outfit.  I pulled this suit out of nowhere and let Hercules Mulligan fix it to the point where it looked better than before.  Honestly, anything could have made it look better than before.

"Angelica!"

"Eliza!" Angelica ran over to the sister who called her over.

"The Schuyler Sisters," I mumbled, watching as they giggled about, Peggy nowhere to be seen.

I watched as Angelica dragged her sister away, letting me find my way through the fancy house.  I felt out of place, but my confidence tried to burst out as I walked towards the bar.  Maybe a sip of some type of drink will cool my uncomforted self.

"Ah, you made it Alex," John walked over and wrapped an arm around my shoulders.  "I'm glad you did.  Where's Eliza?"

"She ran off with Angelica, which is no surprise," I shrugged his arm off.  "But that's no problem.  I don't mind."

John caught the tension in my shoulders, but let it slide as we greeted Hercules and Lafayette at the bar.

"Mon ami, how is the party?" Laf greeted, hugging me after he stood.

"It looks fancy and it feels awkward," I said honestly.  "But I'm glad you guys are here.  No party would be a party without-."

"Hercules Mulligan!"

I laughed with the rest of my friends at Hercules' outburst.  I soon became comfortable and confident as I sat with the true friends I had at the party.

The party continued into the night and I watched as my friends slipped away to greet other friends they had.  I didn't feel like interrupting, so I stayed where I was.  I ordered a small glass of liquor and I watched as the dancing continued.  The classical music played beautifully with the piano man.  I carefully watched the dancers walk to the beat gracefully.  I couldn't do that, even with practice.
