"So I, uh, I got flash cards," I held up the flash cards that held flirty sayings, my face flushing as I looked at my friends Lafayette, John, and Hercules.

"Flash cards?  I don't know if that'd help you much, mon ami," Lafayette tells me, pushing my hand down gently that held the cards.  I looked at the cards nervously, shuffling through a few.  "Just be yourself, Alex.  I'm sure it'd be fine."

"Who is it for, anyway?" Hercules asked, nudging me teasingly.

I looked at the ground, my face growing brighter as I mutter, "Four eyes."

They didn't understand, looking at me like I was holding something back.  It was an inside joke the person and I held, kinda.  Well, more like I called him that when he called me Metal Mouth.  It's kind of a thing we do now.  And I wanted to ask him out somehow, but I wasn't sure if that was possible.

"Yo, Metal Mouth!" A voice called and I instantly blushed more, shoving the cards into my bag pocket and looking over to where the voice called.

"Thomas Jefferson?" John questioned behind me as I noticed Thomas run over to me, a small smile on his face.

"I was hoping you'd sit with James Madison, James Reynolds, John Adams, the rest of my crew and I during lunch today," he explained, a smile on his face.  It seemed to hold something but I couldn't seem to figure out what.

"Oh, uh, sure.  I don't see why not," I replied, my lips curling into a smile.

"Awesome.  I'll see you later, Metal Mouth," Thomas ruffled my hair before running off, back to James Madison who seemed to look nervous.

I turned back to my group of friends to see their jaws were dropped, watching me talk to Thomas Jefferson, the most popular kid in school.

"You have a crush on him?" Hercules suddenly asked, pointing at Thomas who was walking away, towards his first class.

"I, uh," I stuttered, my face burning up as I rubbed my arm.

"You can't sit with him!" John called out.

I suddenly looked at the man who just called me out.  "Why can't I?"

"He's the most popular kid in school.  He's going to do something to you, knowing him," John tried to warn, but I wasn't taking it.

"He is not going to do anything to me.  Him and I are good friends and he won't do anything to make me feel upset," I defended before the first bell went off.  "I'm going to class.  I'll see you later," I huffed and turned on my heels, heading to first period with an upset look apparent on my face.

Throughout the day, Thomas kept giving me small glances during class, and I'd always smile at him. He would return the smile then focus on the lesson, so I did the same. I kept doodling little hearts on my paper when I should've been writing notes. I knew what the lesson was, but I should've been listening more carefully.

Lunch came and I grabbed a few books from my locker for the two study halls I had during the two last periods of the day. I carefully placed them in my bag before closing my locker, heading to the lunch room. I carefully watched my step as I stepped into the lunchroom, careful to not step in any food that landed on the floor.
