Toni was sprinting the final 100 yards of her 5 mile run. Her legs on fire from pure exhaustion and her arms tired from dribbling the basketball along side of her.

When her feet hit the warm familiar sand, her body finally collapsed. She sat there, hands above her head trying dearly to catch her breath.

Toni wasn't much of a runner. Of course basketball includes some running but she typically Tries to avoid it as much as she can. She really only runs like this to clear her head. It usually works pretty well, but that doesn't seem to be the case these days.

As her breathing calmed down she started drawing random patterns in the sand while staring at the ocean.

When she looked down she realized that she drew the name of the girl she wanted so dearly to forget.

She quickly wiped it away In anger and threw her basketball down the beach.

"I can't just have two fucking seconds can I." The brunette said to herself, angry that no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't move on.

"Um I thought you might want this back." A voice said next to Toni.

Tonis Breath hitched in her throat. That voice was the same voice she fell in love with two years ago. The voice of the women who broke her heart.

"Uh yeah thanks." Toni took the ball from the blond and set it down beside her.

"I saw you come sprinting in, out for a run?" Shelby asked while taking a seat next to her ex but allowed a good amount of distance between them.

"Let's not do this Shelby."

"Do what?"

"Have stupid small talk. I'm so not in the mood for it." She brunette said as she kept her eyes focused on the ocean, knowing that if she made eye contact with her she'd break in an instant.

"Well I haven't seen you all summer, I'm just trying have a conversation."

"And who's fault is that Shelby. It's not mine. I'm not the one that ended us now am I." She now focused her eyes on the girl beside her, pure anger leaking out of every pore.

"Toni, I know what I did hurt you but you have to underst-."

"Understand what? Understand why one day you love me and the next day you don't!?" Toni shouted cutting off Shelby.

"Who said I don't love you?" The blonde said in the calmest way she possibly could.

"Well that's the only reason I can think of as to why you dumped me. I don't know how you feel Shelby because I was never given a fucking explanation."

"Toni please stop yelling."  Shelby said standing following Toni.

"I have to go." Toni grabbed her ball and started walking towards the road.

"Toni please." Shelby said, anybody around could tell she was holding back her tears.

"Goodbye Shelby." With that Toni started her run back to her house. This time there was no jogging, just pure sprinting. It was almost like she thought Shelby was chasing after her and she needed to get as much distance from her as possible.

Deep down she knew, she knew Shelby wasn't behind. She knew Shelby didn't care enough to go after her.

Toni finally made her way into her room grabbing some clean clothes and jumping into the cold shower.

The freezing water slowly allowing her muscles to calm down and allow her mind to wake up a little bit. She took her time in the shower before putting on her clothes and making her way back into her room.
