Mal grabbed Ben by the hand and took him outside. They needed to talk. She had mixed feelings about the whole situation. How could Ben never mention that he had another girlfriend and he knew she would be here tonight. None of this made sense to her.
" Hey, are you okay? " Ben said softly
Mal gave him a look that said 'are you being serious '
" We've been together nearly four years and when was I going to find out about her? "
Ben laughed
" Are you jealous? " He teased
" Ben! "
" Okay, okay. I’m sorry. We didn't date for long. Me and Audrey were on a break and we kind've hooked up for a while but it was nothing serious. She moved back to Arendelle which is why we broke up and me and Audrey got back together weeks later "
" Now you can breathe again. Your the only girl I will ever love so you don't need to worry about her " Ben took her hand and hugged her
Mal couldn't help it but get insecure. Her background made her different and it would always make her feel like she didn't deserve the life she lived now. She had to work a million times harder than these princesses would just to be accepted as Ben's girlfriend let alone the queen.
Meanwhile, Ella found herself hiding in another corner of the ballroom with her lifelong friend, Rachel. The brunette was the daughter of Rapunzel and Eugene. Ella felt embarrassed. She came to the party tonight hoping they could continue their romance but a certain person was making her plans difficult.
“ He replaced me with her! “ Ella snapped to her friend, Rachel
“ Well actually technically he replaced you with Audrey and then he replaced Audrey with Mal “ Rachel replied
“ Rachel, do me a favour and shut up “
“ Yes ma’am “ Ella rolled her eyes
“ This is not happening! This will not happen. I am supposed to be his wife not that villain “ She said coldly emphasising on the word “villain”
“ They have a child, Ella. Just face it, there is no breaking them up. Why don’t you try Chad? He has a big castle and he and Audrey broke up like a year ago “ Rachel advised
“ No, I won’t give up that easy. Just you wait. Ben will see. He will see my potential as queen and he will see he should have never let me go “
Rachel smiled awkwardly. She didn’t know how to tell her friend that Ben was never going to see her in that way again. Everyone in Auradon knew they stood no chance with Ben. He only had eyes for Mal. he never really loved his previous partners, he more loved them as a friend but he knew from the minute he laid eyes on Mal that she was his soulmate.
Ella was searching around the ballroom for her love. Her one-sided love. She was convinced that she could make Ben fall in love with her and end his relationship with Mal tonight. Rachel watched her and couldn’t help but laugh, she was being so delusional. Ben was literally married with a child!
“ Ella, it’s been awhile “ Audrey pulled her aside
“ Yes. You managed to steal my boyfriend while I was gone “ she replied coldly
“ You broke up !” Audrey exclaimed “Besides myself and Ben had an on and off relationship for years until he met his wife “
Audrey had managed to forgive both Ben and Mal for their actions years ago. Audrey knew what Ben and Mal had was real love. He had always loved Mal but he never loved Audrey even half as much as he did with her. She just didn’t want to accept it then. After nearly destroying all of Auradon and almost hurting them all, Audrey realised she had to let it go. She decided it was time to move on. She had found a friend in both Ben and Mal in the last year.
“ So we have a common hatred! We both hate Mal “ Ella exclaimed
“ I don’t hate Mal. It appears only you do “
“ Why? She stole your boyfriend “
“ I forgive her for it. Look, Ben and her. They love each other. It took me a while to understand the truth but no matter what you do, you can’t change that” Audrey said
Ella looked at her blankly.
“ Besides if you want a prince, there are plenty of single one’s here tonight “
Audrey winked and met Harry Hook on the dance floor. What they are is complicated! They aren’t dating but they both like each other. Audrey knows they can’t be together otherwise Queen Leah and her parents would disown her. It hurt but she knew it was the truth. She would have to be with a prince for them to be happy even if it meant Audrey would never be happy herself.
Ella glanced over and saw Ben and Mal returning to the party. They were dancing together, gazing lovingly at each other. The sight made her sick to her stomach. She imagined it was her there instead of Mal. Evie was holding her ‘niece’ in her arms as the couple danced together to Tale as Old as Time. Their friends cheered for them as they did so.
“ May I interrupt?” Ella said and took Ben away with her for a dance
Mal was reluctant but she grabbed her baby and decided it was time to feed her anyways.
Ben was awkward. He had a feeling Ella still liked him.
“ How have you been?” Ella smiled
“ Very Good, being king and a young father keeps me busy but I wouldn’t change it for the world “
“ I’ve missed you “ She sighed “ Not a day has gone by since I’ve left that I haven’t thought about you “
Ben laughed nervously.
“ But you chose her “ she sulked
“ She’s my soulmate and I love her. Besides, it was you who broke up with me when you decided to move back with your mother “
“ That was a mistake “ Ella pleaded
“ It was for the best, I am happy now and I wouldn’t change what happened for the world “ Ben smiled gazing over at Mal and his daughter
“ You can’t trust her “ She snapped
“ Are we really having this conversation? “ Ben laughed
“ I am being serious. That child probably isn’t even yours. She is probably even lying to you just so you would marry that witch “
Ben couldn’t believe what she was saying. It sounded ridiculous. He couldn’t contain his laughter which was beginning to irritate his ex girlfriend.
“ I proposed a year before she was pregnant. I can trust her, now you don’t need to worry about my relationship “
“ B-but “
The song ended and a more upbeat song started to play.
“ I’m sorry but if you excuse me I have a wife and a child I must return to “ Ben said politely before returning to Mal
“ Ben! “ Ella exclaimed but he didn’t hear her (or he chose not to)
Rachel met Ella again shortly after.
“ So that went well “ She teased
“ Nothing close to ‘well’ “
“ I told you so “
“ And you better wait cause you’ll see, me and Ben will be together and believe me he will be happier then he has ever been in his life!”
