Chapter 20

twenty years ago ......

" I call this meeting to order " a younger King Adam announced to the table full of the other royals and heroes of the United States of Auradon

" What is first on our agenda, this morning ?" Adam asked

Fairy Godmother cleared her throat to speak up

" May I start by saying congratulations your majesty on behalf of the fairy council, you and her highness will be splendid parents to our future king or queen "

Belle put her hands over her four month pregnant belly.

" Thank you, thank you. Myself and Queen Belle are over the moon with joy . We cannot wait to meet our child in a few short months "  Adam squeezed Belle's hand

" Now what was the announcement you have brought forward for the royal council ? " Belle asked Fairy Godmother

" My King, My queen, we have made the decision to limit our use of magic as we now see as the new generation begin to be born that it is outdated and we shall begin to live out as ordinary mortals and we encourage others to follow us and lead by example for our children " Fairy Godmother said

Tinkerbelle spoke up to contribute to the conversation.

" As we know magic is dangerous and over the years we've all seen it does more harm than good for all of us. Since we've made the decision to divide the villains and heroes, we need to make the next step. That step being reducing our usage of magic in Auradon "

King Adam nodded as he listened to what the fairy council had to say.

" Destroying magic is far too dangerous so we suggest that all magical objects be collected and placed in the museum to discourage usage. That way we can begin to live in a world with no fear. The villains are no longer a problem and we will never have to worry about magic getting into the wrong hands " Fauna suggested

" I see " King Adam sighed " I agree"

" Belle? " he turned towards his wife

" As do I, I propose we take a vote on this course of action "

" All those in favour if you would kindly raise your hand "

King Adam glanced around the large table to see that only one person was against this idea.

" Excuse Merryweather,  dear king. She has difficulty letting go of the past but with time she will adjust like we all will " Flora interrupted

" Right, starting tomorrow use of magic in the kingdom of Auradon will be discouraged and advised against. All magical objects will be collected and put in the museum instead. Magic from this day forward shall only be used in emergencies or situations where you  have been granted permission from the head of fairies, Fairy Godmother "

" Thank you, sire " Fairy Godmother added

" That's all then. Meetings dismissed " King Adam announced to the table

" Magic was stored away? " Jane asked

" Yes, we did in case of emergencies and right now this is an emergency " she said

" What are you going to do to her? " Ben asked concerned for his wife

Fairy Godmother hesitated

" The only way to stop Maleficent's curse on Mal is to make her mortal " She said sadly

" Wait, so you have to destroy basically her whole identity? " Jay asked a bit annoyed

" Unfortunately that's true but otherwise she will die " She sighed

" What will this do to her ? " Evie asked

Fairy Godmother explained that since the process of destroying magic has begun they are short on time before the remaining magic is destroyed for good. Making Mal a mortal wouldn't change much as magic won't be a thing much longer.

" Ben, I leave the decision in your hands, but you don't have long as we are losing her and magic is being destroyed rapidly as we speak " Fairy Godmother advised

" Do it " The young King stated

" Are you sure? " She asked one final time

" Yes, do whatever you can to save her " Ben said

" Of course, your majesty " Fairy Godmother replied

Ben paused

" Can I see her first? Before you use whatever magic you plan to " Ben said

Fairy Godmother left and asked the doctor. Fairy Godmother returned moments later and nodded. Ben returned the gesture and followed the doctor into the room where the love of his life was resting.

" We'll leave you two alone, but Ben we don't have much time "

" I know, thank you " Ben replied

He sighed when he saw her. She was so pale and cold. She was slipping away from them. He took her hand in his.

" I love you, fight for us, please " his voice cracked

He pressed a kiss against her skin.

" I promise nothing like this will ever happen again "

Fairy Godmother appeared in the doorway. Ben eventually noticed her and took this as her way of telling him that his time with her was up. Ben pressed a kiss to her forehead. He gave her hand a squeeze before following Fairy Godmother out the door.

Whatever happens we can get through it
But I cannot lose her
I cannot do any of this without her
Without my one true love
I'd do anything to save her
as I know she would do the same for me if the roles were reversed
Adrianna needs her
I need her
More than anything

Ben watched as a number of fairies from the fairy council followed Fairy Godmother into the room where an almost lifeless Mal was barely fighting for her life.

" Ben? " Evie took Ben away from his thoughts

" Sorry did you say something? "

" I just said don't worry, Mal won't go down without a fight. She'll be okay " Evie said softly

" I hope you are right, I really do "

" Fairy Godmother wouldn't tell you that they could save her if she didn't think that they could " Evie reminded him

" Maybe you're right "

" I always am " Evie joked

" Mal is lucky to have you " Ben hugged his dear friend

" She's even luckier to have you, Ben. You were exactly what she needs "

But if they never met, Mal wouldn't be in this mess right now....
