When Marinette arrived home, she took a deep breath, knowing her parents would have been informed about her absence in school today. She slowly ascended up the stairs, trying to hear for her parents to find out their mood. After not hearing anything she gulped, knowing she was in for trouble. She unlocked the door walking into the living space, Sabine was sat on the sofa, cuddled up with a blanket, a book lay on her legs, she was reading peacefully.
"Hey Mari, how was school today? You didn't get detention did you?" Her mother asked worried, she had put her bookmark in her book so she wouldn't lose her place, she sat up slightly waiting for Marinette's answer.
"N-no I- I took a slow walk home with Adrien..." She told her mother, technically not a lie Adrien and I walked back together she thought to herself, giving her mum a small smile.
"Ah that's lovely," Sabine's worried facial features turned into happiness, contagiously it spread to Marinette as well. The bluenette sat on the sofa next to her mother, letting out a deep exhale she didn't know she was holding.
"Where is Papa?" She asked Sabine.
"He's gone to get takeout, we had a busy day at the bakery and we felt like we all deserve a treat around here for the determination we put into our work. Also your father saw a review from your fashion show and wanted to treat you to your favourite... Italian!" Sabine cheered and Marinette bit her lip to hide her smile.
"Can I see the review?" She asked and her mum quickly got up from the sofa and left Marinette in anticipation, she come back a couple moments later with a small picture frame.
"We already framed it, we are so proud of your accomplishment Marinette," Sabine told her as she handed over the frame. Marinette read it slowly, it was a positive review which read:
Miss Dupain-Cheng stole the show with her truly inspired intricate designs, we have high hopes for the future of fashion here in the capital.
Marinette squealed as she hugged the frame, she had only had positive reviews from her designs and she was so proud of herself and excited for what the future held. She looked to her mother who soon wrapped her arms around her daughter hugging her too.
"Well done Marinette, your hard work paid off, you are going to be quite the designer," Sabine exclaimed, as soon as she did, Tom walked into the room, the fresh smell of pizza following.
"What!?" Tom exclaimed putting pizza boxes down on the coffee table. "A family hug without me? I'm hurt!" Tom came up to his soulmate and his daughter and hugged them both. "Wow I am so lucky to have a daughter who is going to be the next biggest fashion designer in Paris and a wife who is the second best baker in Paris... After me of course," he chuckled jokingly as he kissed Sabine's forehead. The trio sat down on the sofa together chatting and eating pizza, telling each other jokes and spending quality time together. It seems like it had been ages since she's spent time with her parents like this Marinette thought, she loved her relationship with them both.
After an evening of pizza, laughter and love, Marinette was beat. She decided to go upstairs to have a shower, she turned on her bedroom light and put all her school equipment back in her bag, she would be actually going to school tomorrow. She then took out her hair ties from her hair, putting them on her vanity drawers. She did a double take as something caught her eyes, she furrowed her eyebrows finding a small box next to her hairbrush. It had a gift tag attached, she picked it up looking at the tag, it read:
Marinette, you have been chosen. Handle with care.
She bit her lip racking her head for what that could mean. Chosen? Chosen for what? Who had put this here? The only explanation she could come up with is that her mama or papa put it there, no one else had access to her room. She inspected the box, it was wrapped in a red wrapping paper, with a black ribbon around it. She slowly undid the ribbon bow, it fell to the floor and she made no effort to pick it up as she undid the wrapping paper. The box was a wooden engraved with an ancient inscription of which she did not understand. She flipped open the box and inside laid some earrings. They were black circles with a smooth surface and a silver lining. She took them out of the box, putting them in right, then left. She looked at herself in the mirror and smiled. She wondered who had got them for her. She looked back at the box to see if there was another note. But suddenly she heard a hiss and a flash came from both sides of her, she gasped as the action scared her and then squealed as a small red, plush toy looking creature with black spots appeared in front of her. Marinette stared plainly before opening her mouth wide, but as she was about to scream the creature put its hand over Marinette's mouth causing the bluenette to stop las quickly as she started. Marinette stared with utter disbelief at the creature that was holding her mouth.
"Please don't freak out..." the creature had a sweet high pitched voice and Marinette gulped. "I'm going to move my hand... Please don't scream. I will explain..." Marinette's eyes were still wide, she slowly nodded and the creature slowly pulled away from Marinette's mouth. Still hovering.
"My name is Tiki and I'm a Kwami. I am here to serve you, the holder of the miraculous. When you wear the earrings I am here for you, to give you your abilities to be the protector against evil." The small creature spoke. Marinette just stared at her, so Tiki continued. "What is your name?"
"M-my name? Marinette...." The bluenette said with a voice of wonder.
"Well, Marinette, the best way to explain is to show... So, for you to understand say 'spots on' and when you are done, say 'spots off'"
"Spots on?" Marinette questioned but before she could say another word, the creature swirled into the earrings again and a bright red flash through the room, Marinette gulped as she looked down at herself. She had a let's suit on, it was red with black polka dots. She bit her lip as she looked at herself in the mirror.
