I Remember

Chapter 2

"Hello?" I call out as soon as I am in Rose's house.

Rose is my best friend. She was the only one who spent so much time with me after my procedure. She told me about all of the times we had together. It seemed so much fun, I would do anything to relive it. The front hall is light and warm as always. No matter how many times I come into Rose's house, I always feel safe and secure.

For a moment I just stand next to her door, inhaling the clean smells of fronisher polish and Windex and fresh cut flowers. Music is playing from Rose's room. I can feel the beat pulsing through my feet. I try to identify the song, but i can't. It's not like any music I've ever heard. It's soothing and makes you want to break out in song.

I push open her door. The first thing I see are blinding yellow lights on her wall. I'm not surprised because that's her favorite color. I look to my left and there she is sitting at her computer, legs propped up on her desk, bobbing her head and tapping out the rhythm on her thighs. She spots me.

"Maya, fancy seeing you here".

She is sarcastic like that, she always tries to make me smile every moment that she gets. I jump on her bed, letting my back hit the soft matrice.

"What song is that?" I asked.

"Oh right. It's called Into the Unknown. Remember I told you that they made a second Frozen movie!"

"Yea I forgot about that", I quickly replied.

"Well on Summer nights we used to take my mom's car and jam out to this all night. It was so funny because you were such a bad singer!" Rose said while basically falling to the floor from laughing so hard.

I laugh with her, I know that I'm a really bad singer. "Well Rose, I came to get you, we have that masquerade ball tonight, remember?!"

"I remember".

She goes to her closet and pushes the door open. She pulls out two gorgeous ball gowns. She hands me one. It's a bright red color, tight around the chest area with glistening garnets. It's off the shoulder with fabric right above my elbows. From the waist down it is a flowing silk with small garnets here and there. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen! I grabbed it with excitement.

"Thank you so much!" I screamed.

"Any time!"

We leave the room with our dress in our right hand and our phone in the other.

As Rose and I walk to the hairdresser to get our hair done for tonight, I notice a boy following us. He looks around my age. I make sure to keep my eye on him, he has been following us from a distance for the past 5 minutes, but he kept getting farther and farther away. I had enough and looked him in the eyes even though he was a yard away.

I felt time stop.

I couldn't make out any features except his eyes. They were nothing like I have ever seen before. They were a mix between teal and light green. They were so mesmerizing that I had to look away. When I turned back, he was nowhere to be found.

"Hey Rose."

"Yea?" she says.

"Did you see that boy?" I say, still in shock.

"I- I don't know what you are talking about."

Something about the way she said that makes me think that she is hiding something from me. "Are you sure?" I say with a little attitude. She never responds.
