After dropping Rose off at her house, and entering my room, I can finally breathe. I flop on my bed, staring up at my white ceiling. I close my eyes, but then less than a second later, I hear a loud crack. It was like a bullet being fired, exploding through the room. I jump.

I spin around looking for the source, my bathroom window. I open the blinds expecting to see a giant crack in the glass, but something more unexpected waits for me outside. A small white folded square of paper sits on my windowsill. I look out into the darkened front yard, and see a shadow running into the woods.

I stare back into the windowsill. The paper is lined, torn out of a school notebook. Black ink peaks through to the other side. It's a note.

My heart skips at the thought. I know It wasn't here this morning. I pull open my window. The bottom half of my screen easily comes off. My hand trembles as I reach for the note. I hesitate, then slide my fingers over the cool dry paper, and grab it. I don't read it immediately, I first put my screen back in place and close my window and blinds. Finally I sit on my bed and place the note on my lap. Carefully, I unfold the small slip.

I'm sorry if I startled you tonight. Meet me at black lagoon at 6:45 sharp so I can explain.

His face comes to me, like a hot stove pressed against my brain. I dropped the note as if it was on fire. My pulse throbs in my fingertips. Who is this boy and how does he know me? I lay my head on my pillow, being too lazy to change out of my dress. My eyes flicker, and soon I fall into a deep sleep.
