"Maddie, can you go start picking up some empty plates out there?" Emma asked as she scrubbed at the dishes.

Maddie groaned. "Why?"

Emma shut her eyes, turned around, then wiped her hands on her jeans. "Beeecause we're going to-"

"Uuugh!" Maddie rolled her eyes. "Why can't you do it?"

Emma scratched behind her ear and took a deep breath. "Maybe I will then."

She tugged on the end of her braid and made her way out of the kitchen doors to the dining hall. Emma gathered a few empty plates. Then she heard her name.

"Emma?"

She froze. That sounded a lot like....

"Emma?"

Yeah. That was him. She turned around.

"Oh, hi." She gave him a smile. "What's up, Jax? I didn't know you knew the bride!"

Jax chuckled. "She's my aunt Lily." She nodded. "What are you doing here?"

Emma's smile faded a little. "Yeah. Well, I work here."

"You do? I didn't know they hired teens." He shrugged.

"Oh they don't. I would know that. My dad owns the place." Emma smiled with her lips.

"Hmm, well in that case-"

"Emma!" Her stepmother called quickly.

Emma jumped. "Yeah!"

"No time for canoodling!" She called.

Emma shut her eyes and internally screamed. Baaaad timing, Ursula! Bad. Timing.

"Sorry," he said quickly, handing her some of the dishes. Emma shook her head.

"It's okay," she insisted. "Thanks." He nodded.

"I'll see you at school, okay?" Emma said, walking back towards the kitchen doors.

"Okay!" He called.
