Emma squinted through the dark and walked very close to Jax.
"We're going to find sea shells at 1:15 in the morning?" Emma asked. "With what light to guide us?"
"Oh, do you mean these lights?" Jax pulled out two small, handheld flashlights.
"So you did plan out this night, Mr. Novoa?" Emma smiled.
"Maybe." He grinned.
The two teenagers switched on the flashlights and searched around in the sand. It was silent until Emma began to talk.
"Jax?" She asked.
"Hmm?" He said back.
"How do you know the security guard?" She wondered, wiping the sand from her fingers.
"I come here at night to think sometimes. I meet him a few weeks ago."
"Oh." Emma looked down at her sneakers. "What do you think about?"
"Nothing really, little things," he said. "No matter how little they are, I can't seem to fall asleep, so I come here."
Emma considered this. Her thoughts were cut off by the sound of her phone ringing.
She pulled her phone out from her coat pocket. "Hello?"
"Emma! I'm covering for you, but you need to come home right now!" She heard Maddie panic through the phone.
"Okay! Okay, hold on. We're coming." Emma closed her phone and stuffed it back into her pocket. "We have to go."
Jax stood up and nodded. "Let's go."
