part 5 : Fair

You had to have a break from your household, you and your dad struggled to get along since mum left. Your brother and sister left with her and then moved into their own houses.

You walk across the bridge which you'd cross for school. It had a deep and fast flowing river under it. You look over at it, It was murky and gross. On the opposite side there was a big pipe leading into a river, sometimes gangs of kids would venture into it. You have never been in there though, never got the chance or thought to.

You look at builders setting up all the things needed for the construction, a couple diggers already there. You hear footsteps behind you, you turn around quickly. It was Bill.
He jumps slightly at you turning.
"hello y/n" he smiles.
"H-hi bill?"
A couple seconds silence.
"You are on a walk too I see" he nods.
You nod and smile slightly back.
"just having a break from the house" you say awkwardly, scratching the back of your neck. He made you flustered, he was attractive and didn't keep his eyes off of you.
He straightens his back as he hears this.
"Why?" He asks, staring at you more intensely.
"I-" you thought about it, you didn't want to mention anything about your dad.
"Just a change of scenery" you smile, that sounded convincing.
He just stares at you, you look up from the floor at him catching him off guard again. "Why are you on a walk?" You ask.
"Fresh air, gets stuffy inside sometimes" he says, sighing as he looks up.
You get to the bridge, looking down at the river.
"I've always wondered what's inside that sewer, I see loads of people go inside"
Bill jolts slightly.
"You have?" He asks, looking slightly surprised.
"Yeah, why are you so shocked??"
"it's pretty dangerous down there, so I wouldn't recommend it" he says.
You nod, "oh, right"
You hear a yell.
"Hello y/n, who is thi-" you hear, you both turn and see David leaning out his car window.
He looks up from you to bill, his face scrunches.
"So are you two pals or something now?" He asks in disgust.
Bill looks down at you.
"Y-yes" you say, looking up at bill.
He nods and looks at David.
You look at David too.
Silence, just the sound of the river.
David starts breathing heavily.
"You going to the fair y/n?" He asks.
"Probably not" you say quietly, a trap you wouldn't fall in.
"I won't go then" he sighs, pouting.
"Why?" You ask, your heart racing.
You see bill look down at you, then shoots his head back up at David.
"I'll see you soon y/n" he says, driving off quickly. Bill looks up, you couldn't see his face as the sun was too bright.
He lets out a deep breath and turns to face you fully.
"Are you okay?" He asks.
You nod.
