April Fool's Day was a day of terror. There was no other word to describe it—there was chaos in the corridors, paranoid students left and right attempting to not get caught in pranks, Professors going berseck trying to punish those daring to cast spells and charms in an effort to prank others and too many students sent in the hospital wing even if it was only morning still—and Jane wasn't all that fond of the disarray, not when she wasn't the one causing it.
She had Albus by her side this morning as they headed to their Care for Magical Creatures class, the two of them making small talk all the way to the courtyard where the next lecture would take place. They were in the process of talking about the breakfast they had in the Great Hall during the morning when out of nowhere, there was a gust of wind.
Jane's eyes widened. "Watch out!"
It was too late.
She had walked right into the gust of wind and she could only scream in alarm as she was pushed to the right, crashing onto Albus. He attempted to steady her but there was no use – he too was caught in the current. Before either of them could fully realise what was happening, they found themselves stumbling into an empty classroom, falling on the floor with a thud, dust flying around them. The door slammed shut. Jane whipped her head around to the exit just as they heard giggling from outside. She had stood up in no time, paying no heed to Albus's pained groan as she accidentally jabbed her elbow on his chest in an attempt to get off of him quickly.
Jane rushed for the handle and turned it only for the door to not budge. It was locked. She started banging on it. "Let us out!"
The giggling grew more and more faint until it couldn't be heard anymore. Jane reached for her wand and attempted to unlock the door. She had no luck. She tried again and again, eyes growing wild with every failed attempt, her anger and annoyance rising until she snapped, let out a cry of frustration and banged her fist on the door. In the aftermath of her anger, there was only silence, until there was shifting, and she turned around to see Albus only just getting off of the floor to dust his pants off. She felt like snapping at him. She barely resisted the urge to do it.
"We're stuck!"
"I know."
His calm response threw her off and she blinked, in disbelief at how he seemed completely calm. He took out his wand and she was certain he would help her escape, but then he muttered a cleaning spell under his breath and gradually, the dust in the room started to disappear. Jane couldn't help but scoff. He turned to her with a small, innocent smile.
"What? We are probably going to be here for a while. The least we could do is get comfortable."
"We would be in here for less if you tried to help me open the door!"
Her tone of indignation was unmatched as he shrugged and moved to the windows to draw the curtains back and let light inside the room. "What would I do you haven't already tried?"
Jane was having the hardest time not yelling at him. "I don't know! Something!"
"Fine, calm down," he murmured as he came by the door.
"I can't calm down!" she exploded. "We are locked in a classroom when we are supposed to be in Care for Magical Creatures by some immature – some immature-"
"Yes?" Albus humoured her with a small smirk. She only needed to send him a glare to make him move forward with a small laugh. "Calm down, I'll try to open the door. Things aren't all that tragic."
She huffed but didn't say anything else as she was appeased by him starting to cast spells in an attempt to unlock or open the door. Nothing he did worked, however. Jane let out a groan as she headed by the windowsill and looked down from the window. She opened it. Albus let out a yelp and rushed to her side.
