As the exam period arrived, the students of Hogwarts became an unorganized mass of anxiety, stress and lack of sleep. Jane had never had much of an issue with exams, if anything, she found that period rather relaxing since she didn't have to do any homework and there were days she didn't have to wake up early to go to class, but this time, she truly realized why students claimed exams were the worst period of the year.
Her first NEWT exam was Transfiguration. The theoretical part she had in the morning was tiring, and by the end of it, she had a headache that didn't go away until lunch when she had something to eat, although she supposed the whole ordeal could be worse since she at least had all her friends with her in this exam. She didn't have much of a reprieve though, as she had the practical exam in the afternoon. She did all that was asked of her, confident in her abilities after all the times she'd practiced. She left the examination room with a smile, proud of herself for her work and waited for her friends to finish, urging them from the sidelines, until they were finished with their examination as well and they could return to their common room.
Two days later, she had her second exam. The Charms theoritical exam was easy in her opinion, after all the hours she had studied the material. Ramona and Albus claimed they had had no issue with it. Jane was more anxious about the practical exam, as she knew they were going to ask her to cast her Patronus for extra points. She completed all that was asked of her, and when it was time for her to cast the dreaded spell, she took in a deep breath, focused, and attempted the Patronus Charm. It was rather dimmer than the last time she had cast it, but her lynx was still evident, and so she left the room with a smile on her lips yet again.
Two days later, in the end of the week, she had her third exam, Defence Against the Dark Arts. Yet again, Jane didn't encounter a problem with her paper, although Scorpius told her later he had almost written down Stupefy and Bombarda could both prove to be fatal spells to those who received them – thankfully, he included only Bombarda in his answer. The practical examination part was even easier than the practical examinations she had endured in the last few days, and when she met up with Scorpius later he agreed with her.
The first day of the next week found Jane without a paper to give. Only Ramona had an examination. She didn't appear anxious, though, as she had Divination. For the duration of the day she didn't stop boasting about her paper as she claimed all she wrote and did were flawless and she thought one of the people who came to examine her had been impressed by her reading skills. By the time they had returned to the common room, she had convinced Albus, Scorpius and Jane to have her look through the crystal ball for them and read their palms.
Just the next day, Jane and Ramona had their Arithmancy paper, while Scorpius and Albus had yet another free day to do as they wished. Their paper was tough, even though both of them managed to get through it with hardly any mistakes. The rest of their class, though, was obviously worried, and as they left, Jane saw Carter—the Hufflepuff that had asked her out on Valentine's Day—frowning.
The next day only Albus had an exam. They waited for him as he finished his theoretical exam in Astronomy, talking about the exams they had already given—Scorpius had had Herbology some time last week—speaking their worries out loud. Albus seemed completely calm as he left the room of the examination, his confidence putting all of them at ease. They didn't have the chance to ask him how his practical exam went that day as he had to get up in the early hours of the l morning to take a look at the stars and be examined properly.
The next morning, Albus wasn't at the table, although he thankfully didn't have an exam scheduled. It was Jane and Scorpius who kept each other company on their way to the room they would be examined in Potions. To Jane, this was the hardest exam so far. Scorpius went through the theoretical and practical examination with flying colours while Jane questioned her decisions left and right. Thankfully, she didn't do any mistake she noticed.
