James's POV:

As I'm being lead to some meeting I'm supposed to be having, I keep my phone placed in my hand as I read over Riley's messages. Apparently, Mum really isn't leaving her alone and keeps on bothering her about food and it's doing her head-in. They're currently at the shops across the road after dropping me here at work and it seems that Riley's seriously struggling. There's a reason I told her not to go but of course she thought she would be okay. Typical Riley.

"Hey James," a familiar voice says. I look up and see Desirée standing there with a light smile on her lips as she bit down on her bottom one. I look up from my phone for a moment and nod at her. Talking and texting with one thumb isn't exactly easy. "You know you're like two minutes late, don't you?" she informs me.

"Didn't know you were that exact here," I mumble, reading over Riley's text before she sends me a picture.

That's the store manager!! She doesn't think I can push the trolley because I'm pregnant - like what??! Your mother is sooo embarrassing

That's the store manager!! She doesn't think I can push the trolley because I'm pregnant - like what??! Your mother is sooo embarrassing. She's literally gone to get a whole of another trolley!😭😭 You should have told me I was going to die from humiliation. Plus she keeps asking if there are more of the products in stock when there are already hundreds on display!! How do you deal??

I chuckle at the caption, ignoring whatever Desirée had just said to me, and text Riley back with the best advice I can give her.

James: Here's what you do: Tell her you're going to the toilet. Slowly walk off. Then when you're out of her eyesight, run🤣 Oh I love you, Riles, you're hilarious😂😘 Plus did you seriously just take a pic of the store manager??!

Riley: I love you too dimwit even though you're advice really isn't going to help anything. He was practically waiting for someone to take a photo, I mean look at his smile! Can you blame me?😂😂

"James? You literally have to be in that meeting right now," she snaps. I roll my eyes before forcing an over-exaggerated smile at her and then opening the door and walking inside to be met with loads of people all in jeans and casual clothes like I was, except with disappointed looks on their faces, including my uncle. I never realized how serious they all were about this. I work with social services! Not a whole darn business company.

"James, you're late," Uncle Carlos states.

"Yeah, sorry about that," I say, beginning to take a seat at the one spare chair left but as I do, everyone begins to get up, leaving me confused.

"No, you're majorly late. The meeting was one hour ago. 10-11 not 11-12," he moans.

"You sure about that? I felt for sure that it was the other way around when I got the email," I apprise. He shakes his head in disapproval.

"No, it wasn't. I suppose I'll have to talk to your mother about working on your timings. Anyway, here's your rota," he says, walking towards me and handing me a sheet as everyone else except for the odd two people begin to exit. "It's not really a rota, more of an information booklet that goes through everything we discussed this morning. After a few lectures online, you're due to be given a placement in a middle school and I believe it is Suderprest primary," I'm told. I take the sheets of paper out of his hands and begin to flick through them. "Apparently you want to work somewhere near so you can be around your girlfriend-"
