The next couple weeks took January away, landing Allison in February. Her first paycheck since her new position - though she wouldn't be taking over until March - was cleared by her lawyer to start their process. The trial was today and Allison felt sick to her stomach - she finally had to see Calvin face to face for the first time since he beat her to near death. She was unconscious when the trial went to have him in prison. She wishes she could have stood up for herself and told them that he wasn't using self defense and he most certainly had every intention of what happened.
They had been exchanging texts which made Brian uncomfortable - a new situation to them both. Allison was very short in her replies, simply telling him they have nothing to speak about until their court date. He tried for mediation, but there was no mediating with Allison.

"Do you want me to come with you?" Brian asked, watching her frantically run around packing up Paige's things to stay with Melyssa. "I don't know Brian," Allison sighed, zipping up her backpack. "I don't really even feel comfortable having Paige be put on the stand. She's five." "I wouldn't be put on stand. I'll sit in the back, Tony Gunkin it." Allison smiled lightly, but called Paige to come to the living room. Brian's heart was sinking because he knew that Allison was terrified, but didn't ever say so. He could feel it in the air, see her hands shaking, her chest and cheeks more red than the first night they had met.
They dropped off Paige - who was going to be joining them in a few hours at the court house - then drove to the trial. Brian laced his fingers with Allison's for the entire ride. Court was luckily on her side of the water. "I'm so scared," Allison whispered, tears filling her eyes. She swallowed the lump in her throat and looked over at Brian who was looking straight ahead. Out of nowhere, he pulled into a grocery parking lot, in a spot that was far from the entrance. "What are you doing?" "We're 2 minutes away with 45 minutes to spare. I think we can take five minutes to breath." Allison looked at Brian with a big question mark on her face, but he just smiled and plugged his phone into the auxiliary port.
"Brian..I don't want to be late-" "Shh baby, just trust me." Brian turned the volume dial high and wore his breath taking smile as Allison waited to see the trick he had up his sleeve. A familiar tune that reminded her of the one of the best days she had ever had with her mother poured through the radio.
