Allison was going to be heading into work for just an hour to get some orders done and set up employees with their unemployment help because of the Corona Virus. It seemed ridiculous to her, but there were certain precautions that had to be met. "Well baby, I can get dinner started for you." Brian's thick accent still gave Allison chills, she loved that when he was angry it came out the most. "As in 'I'll defrost the meat and cut some vegetables, but you can do the rest'?" "Whaaat? Not at all." Brian smiled into the camera, Allison right back at him. He realized she really was starting to know him better than he thought.
Just then, Allison got an interrupting phone call from her ex, who currently had her daughter. "Hold on baby, I'll call you back in a second."
Brian was use to the phone calls ending promptly, especially because of her job. He went back to looking through the completely packed fridge, debating on what to have for dinner.
"Yes?" Allison answered the phone slightly irritated. Calvin always brought Paige home two days earlier - not that she was complaining, but he was already ruining whatever image Paige had for him. "Hey, I have to drop Paige off a little early," Calvin said. She could tell they were already in the car. "Well I'm not home." "Yeah Paige told me you've been at Brian's. We picked her up there once, that's were I'm headed." "I'm not there either, Calvin. Where are you?" "Right down the street from your mans house, Allison." She pulled her phone away from her face and groaned in frustration. He was already rewriting his own rules and she was fed up with it.
"Why now? You can't take her to eat for an hour while I get back to the house?" "I have a probation meeting, Allison. I'm not taking Paige with me." "Alright. I'll call Brian." I hung up and quickly called Brian back, who answered on the first ring.
"You answered fast, are you watching porn?" "Nah, I wouldn't answer if I was watching porn. What's up?" Allison took a deep breath and thought about how to apply a calm tone to the message she was giving him. "Calvin decided he is going to drop off Paige." "When?" Brian smiled, excited to have her home so early. He wanted to finish building her Lego Transformer.
"Now." Brian looked out the window and saw a blue car pulled along side the side walk. "I'm sorry baby. I'm on my way home." "It's fine Alli, I got this." Brian cleared his throat after hanging up the phone and walking out to the hallway of the small condo complex. There was only two other apartments in this building, that's what he loved most about it. It was comfortable, nothing even close to lavish.
"Brian!" Paige yelled, breaking free from her dad's hands and running up to the older gentleman. "I missed you!" "I missed you too! Did you have fun with your dad?"
"Yeah! We went golfing!" Brian raised an eyebrow at the little girl, who's father interjected. "Virtual, Paige." Paige smiled at her dad and gave him a hug goodbye before tugging at Brian's hand. Since Calvin was a coward and didn't know that the man in front of him saved his ex and his daughter, Brian stuck out his hand like the bigger man.
