It was early morning - a Saturday where everyone could sleep in. Allison heard a knocking on her door and she immediately looked over at Brian who was still snoring. She grabbed her phone at read 7:23 am and groaned.

Half asleep she wondered down the hall and checked on Paige who was still sound asleep.
She yawned and opened the door before she even looked out the window. If she had looked, she would have ran back to bed.

It was her mother.

"Mom, what are you doing here?"
"Alicia told me Calvin was let out of jail. I wanted to see if you were okay."
"I'm fine. We already went to trial. You could have called instead of traveling 1000 miles."
"Well I need to do some business in Manhattan and figured I'd come cook my girl some breakfast."
"This isn't the best time...why don't we plan for lunch."
"Paige is still asleep? Isn't she usually up for school by now?"

"Uhm yes. We were up playing Sorry and watching Star Wars." Allison's mother raised an eyebrow at her daughter before taking off her jacket to hang. She had only been to her house a handful or times but always treated it like she wasn't the guest.
"Is this a mans jacket?" She asked, looking at Brian's puffer jacket that Alli had gotten him for Christmas - all three of them matched when they went out, especially if Paige wore her hats.

"It is, that's why this isn't a good time."
"You're living with a man? Since when?" Allison's mother smiled and it was weird, she had rarely seen a genuine and full smile in years.
"Almost 6 months now," she smiled at the thought. Six months ago she was terrified of anything to do with love and romance, but Brian was her kryptonite.

"I hope he's not some young one who you're supporting everyday." Just then, Paige cracked open her door while rubbing her eyes.
"Nana?" She croaked, blinking a few times before opening her eyes fully.
"In the flesh baby doll." Something was certainly off about her mother, but she wasn't about to point it out. For once she didn't wear her scowl or act like it pained her for physical attention.

Allison didn't want to wake her snoring boyfriend up, so she left him a sticky note on her pillow case as she threw on a sweater and some yoga pants before going out to the living room with her mom and daughter.
"There's something I want to talk to you about," Alli's mother sighed, looking at her nails as Paige ate her cereal and watched her morning show.
"What is it mom?"
"Well there's two things...they're both big news." Allison gave her a look that told her mother she was impatient. "Your sister is pregnant and-"
"What?! How could she not tell me?!"
"Your father and I are getting divorced."

Allison was more shocked about her little sister's pregnancy. At one point, they were so close, they told each other everything. After she moved to New York, Katrina had barely spoken to her sister - she felt abandoned because their love was the only ones present in the home.

"This is a lot to process. Is that why you came here? Do you need somewhere to go?" Allison wasn't sure why she was upset. She knew for a fact that her parents weren't happy together - at one point they were.
