We had finally come to an agreement over Kayla's outfit. She put on a forest green skater style dress and matching shoes.
"Ow! You hit my eye," Kayla said cupping her eye with her hand.
"Come on. We have to finish this." I said handing her a little mascara. This was only a family dinner so Kayla wasn't wearing a lot of makeup or jewelry.
"I hope this goes well." She said to herself while she looked in the mirror. I stood next to her and adjusted my outfit: a pale beige flowing dress with a little brown belt on my waist.
"Yep," I said, popping the 'p'.
"Where is Nathan? I don't want to be late," She said. She kicked a pair of pants out of the way and sat down my bed.
"Uhmm...He should be here soon." I said while putting on my shoes that were the same beige color of my dress.
"Guys! Your friend Nathan is here." My mom called from the bottom floor.
"Coming." I said. I grabbed Kayla by the shoulders and basically dragged her away from the mirror.
"I can't wait!" Kayla said in the back seat of Nathan's car. He was driving and I was sitting in the passenger seat.
"He said he would wait outside to meet us right?" I said looking at the time on my phone.
"Yep." Kayla said. "Yep-Yep-Yep. Yep is a weird thing to say."
"Stop. Your giving me a headache. Geez." Nathan said. Kayla was rambling on about nonsense. Probably to block out her mind of the possibility of anything going wrong.
"You guys are no funn." She said, finally calming down. There was silence in the car, until Kayla's phone went off.
"WHY is your phone on FULL volume?!" I asked covering my ears. She had a loud heavy metal song as her ringtone and it was filling the car with guitar riffs and solos.
"hah-sorry. It's Vic." She said. He would be waiting for us out on his porch. So when we finally arrived, all we saw was a lamp and Vic's hair.
"Yay." Kayla said. As soon as Nathan parked she climbed out the car, walked across the neat grass and hugged her boyfriend. The smile on his face when he saw her made the lamp look like a baby night light.
"They are so cute." I said to Nathan when we were walking to the porch.
"Yea." He chuckled.
"Come on in." Vic said. He opened the door for us to enter.
Vic's place was a mix of modern and hispanic culture. The living room had a flat screen hanging on the wall, with a light grey square couch in front of it. The coffee table was glass, but most of the glass was covered with magazines and a few spanish novels.
"Oh, forgot to put these away." Vic said before he scooped up the novels and placed them near his bag.
"Well, I know someone's not failing Spanish." Kayla said to me. I jokingly rolled my eyes.
"You must be Vic's girlfriend!" Vic's mother walked in from the kitchen. She was shorter than vic, tan skin and bold black hair that was tied up. Instead of shaking Kayla's outstretched hand she hugged her.
"Wow Vic got lucky." She said as she pulled away to look at Kayla.
"Mom!" Vic said. He laughed it of nervously and rushed us to the kitchen.
"Eat as much as you guys want." Vic's mother said. She took a sea next to her husband and the rest of us followed. Vic next to his father, Kayla next to Vic, me next to Kayla, and Nathan next to me.
Most of the dinner went by with Vic and Kayla answering questions from his parents. Me and Nathan were just sitting and eating.
"You look really pretty." Nathan said to me. The rest of the table was laughing at something Kayla said, they couldn't hear us.
"Thanks. You too." I blushed. "Well, not pretty-uhm- Handsome?"
"Victor, ask the friend and his girlfriend if they are done with the dinner." Vic's mom said as she got up to collect the rest of the plates on the table.
"Uh-m-where not-"
"Yes. Thank you." Nathan said finishing my sentence. My eyes were wide, Nathan just smirked and at me and got up.
The rest of the night flew by, Vic and Kayla stuck together and Kayla seemed comfortable around his parents. And me and Nathan joined the conversation more often.
"Be careful driving home." Vic's mother said as we got our stuff and opened the door. Me and Nathan got in the car and waited while Kayla lingered by the door with the family.
"They seem nice." I said.
"And Kayla seems welcome." Nathan added. I scooted and the passenger seat and rested my head on my hand.
"Nice car." I said. He smiled.
"Thanks. Its new. Its really fast too." Nathan said. Ok then. He liked his cars. It wasn't a bad car. Black exterior, with dark wood on the inside, the seats and floor were a lightish grey that brightened up the whole dark car look.
"That was awkward in there when she called me your girlfriend." I blurted out. He looked at me.
"It wouldn't be horrible to be your boyfriend." He smirked.
"Is there a problem with dating me Ali?" He said, putting on a face of fake sadness. I stuck my tongue out at him. I turned to look out the window, Kayla was saying bye finally.
When I turned around again I was met by Nathan's piercing eyes. He was studying my face, trying to read my emotions.
"What?" I said, squirming in my seat. This still didn't make him take his eyes off of me.
"You look so beautiful." He said shrugging. Geez, how will I live with all these compliments in one day?
"Thanks." I mumbled looking at my lap.
"Don't be embarrassed. Its just a compliment." He reached over and took my hand. I looked up him, our faces so close I could see the tiny flecks of grey in his sky blue eyes. Just as the distance was about to disappear, the car door opened and Kayla jumped in.
"Did you guys miss me." Kayla said as she jumped in. I shot back, my cheeks on fire. Nathan did the same and placed my hand down.
"The tension is so thick. Just kiss already." Kayla said. She did not have a filter. I glanced at Nathan who was smirking, ugh.
