A/N: sorry! Not proof read!
Why couldn't I like the gamers? The nerdy boys...the jocks even!
Why do I insist on falling for the dark mysterious guys. It's so stereotypical for a blonde to fall for the bad boy.
But...those eyes...
Those dark hazel eyes...
The black hair, the pale skin...Scarlett! Stop it!
I scold myself as I pace around in my room,
I'm crushing so bad on him, and we've only had one conversation..
As I hear a chuckle, I look up and find my mum leaning on the door frame in my room.
She walks across the room and flops onto my double bed.
"What's up, babe?" She asks.
I stand there awkwardly, wondering if she heard me or not. I decide to play it cool. Well, as cool as Scarlett Asher can get...
"What do you mean?" My voice breaks awkwardly
She looks at me with an expression full of amusement.
"Honey, I could hear you grunting and swearing from the lounge.."
Oh. so I guess she heard me.
"I was...practicing"
Now she looks like she could laugh any second,
"Right, and may I inquire what you would be practicing for?"
"No.."
"Ok, if you don't want to tell me what's up, then please stop pacing back and forth, you're creating a whirl wind in here!" She laughs slightly, and then gets up to leave.
"Wait" I turn toward her fully, "...uh mum?"
She gets into a seated position on the bed,
"Yes Scar?"I hesitate, but I need to talk to someone, and mums were created on this very earth to be there to talk to, right?
"I, uh..." I look down, the look of anticipation on her face is intimidating me,
"It's...guy problems..""Ooohhhhhh boy talk!" She grabs a throw pillow and hugs it to her chest, "do you know how long I have waited for us to have this convo?" She beams.
"Urgh, mum! First of all, it's conversation, and second of all, if you want to ever have a conversation with me again, you will shut up and listen!" My face goes red with embarrassment.
She looks taken aback and proud.
"Well, here is a woman who knows what she wants, and how to get it!" She looks up at me, then pats the spot next to her, "I'm kidding babe, tell me what you need to get out, I'll listen."
I look at her for a brief moment, then sit next to her, wearily.
"Well.." I don't know how to start..
"Ok, there's this guy in my home group an-""Ooh! Is he cute? What's his name? How old is he? Is he in your year? He better be, or I'll-"
"Mum!"
"Sorry, I forgot, I'll listen" she encourages me to continue,
"...as I was saying, there's this guy in my home group called Nick, and yes, he is cute, actually, he's gorgeous...oh my god...I can't believe I just said that to you.." I feel the heat rise to my face,
"Keep going, I'm not judging, I was a teenager too once, remember?"
"Ok...well, I've had a crush on him since the beginning of year 8, and the whole of year 9...and, I've tried so hard not to like him, but...I just can't, i like him too much. The thing that makes it worse, is that I like him for no apparent reason, we have only spoken a few times, and only had one conversation..." I trail off realising how stupid it must sound. I look to mum to see if she will tell me I'm stupid, but she doesn't, she just smiles,
"What colour are his eyes?"
Ok, that's random question,
"What?""What colour are his eyes?"
"Um, hazel"
"So you've looked into his eyes?"
"Uh kinda, only for a few seconds though.."
"You know, my mum always used to say to me, if you've looked into each others eyes more than once, you've had more than a thousand conversations."
"What does that mean? It's not like we gaze into each other's eyes for hours, it's only a few seconds as we walk down the corridor, or in home group!"
Mum shakes her head and smiles,
"It only has to be a few seconds. You're eyes reflect your emotion, tell me, are you looking at his eyes? Or is he looking at yours?"
"What do you mean?"
"When your eyes meet, is it because he senses you looking? Or do you sense him, or do you just both do it?"
I think about it for a moment,
"Uhhh I don't know? This is so dumb, I feel heavy, so I look up and his eyes are on me. Then when I meet his eyes, we both look away. Although, sometimes when I look at him he looks at me, but there's nothing romantic going on..."
Mum grins, then looks down, biting her smile.
"Don't think I cant see you laughing, mum!" I go red again.
"I'm not laughing! I promise! It's just that...i think he likes you..."
I feel like a wall of ice cold air has been smacked into my body. I feel prickles go through my body, then I smile uncontrollably.
"Really?"
"Yep, how was the first day back when you saw him?"
It felt great actually, but how do I put this to my mum...
"Well...I don't know. I walked into home group, and I immediately searched the room for Nick, as I always do. And...When I saw his long black hair facing away from the door, I smiled internally, if you know what I mean, the only bad thing was that I couldn't see his face. A few minutes later, when I was leaning on the wall with Crystal, Lilly and Elise, Nick walked past to collect something from the teacher, and he glanced at me like always, but he did a double take. It actually made me laugh, at least someone had noticed the weight I had lost! Uh, sorry...anyway he looked at me for at least 2 full seconds and then kept walking. To be honest, that made my day, that's how pathetic I am. oh and mum, I have two classes with him this year, so it's even better. He looks at me more, and I get to return the favour."
"Aw cute, but at this rate, you won't be speaking until the last day of year 12" she looked at me pointedly.
"Mum, you know that I'm socially awkward! There's no way I can talk to him first...and he's the same, I think. So we won't ever talk I don't think.."
I look down, starting to feel pathetic. My mum is one of the most confident people I know, top that off with the fact she's gorgeous, it must be so frustrating for her, having a daughter who can't talk to someone she likes.
"Sorry I'm telling you all this, you must find it pathetic.."
#fishingforlikes, hey Scarlett?
"No! Not at all! I just think we need a way to tackle this problem, the ending is great, so's the beginning, it's the middle we need to sort out...super awesome flirty game plan, immense!"
She laughs which Makes me laugh."After all, who run the world?" She sings in her terrible Beyoncé voice,
"Emotionally unstable girls!" We crack up.
Mum pulls me over for a hug, and I lean into her. I've never talked to her about my so called 'love life' before, only ever hers, so this feels weird. Oh well, at least I've gotten all that off my chest.
