"We'll be there soon." Obi-Wan's words echo outside my room, and I pull myself out of meditation as my door opens. "Ellor, the council-"
"Say no more, let's go." He rolls his eyes at my interruption, but we meet up with Anakin and Ahsoka as we walk to a briefing chamber. There's a holo transmission from Grievous! And he has Eeth Koth in custody. I look at the bigger picture, having no need for Grievous's speech. Aha! Koth is using hand signals I don't understand them, but Kenobi or one of the other masters may.
Grievous spews his "I hate you all, die Jedi scum" nonsense before a MagnaGuard drives its electro staff into the Jedi's back. The younglings in the chamber whimper and hide behind other Jedi.
"Away with the younglings," Grandmaster Yoda says, and Ahsoka and Barris lead the children away. I'm most likely supposed to go with them, but I tap my general's arm and whisper to Obi-Wan,
"General Koth is using hand signals. Replay the recording, we should interpret them before deciding on anything." He nods at me.
"Good observation, Ellor." He turns back to the Council.
"My padawan-" He starts.
"My commander-" Plo says at the same time. They glance at each other. "You go first," Plo says graciously.
"Thank you. My padawan pointed out that Master Koth was using hand signals in the transmission. Play it back, and we may find some information. What were you going to say, Master Koon?"
"I was going to say that Commander Wolffe found the hidden message in the transmission, and we should play it back." Plo gives me a bemused look. I give him and Wolffe a smile. The clone commander appears to have a scar over one of his eyes and has a mechanical eyeball there. If he was any other Jedi's commander I would be surprised he's still here, the eye problem could get designated as a 'defect' which could lead to his death. But Plo Koon was notoriously fond of his men, and of course would have prevented that. I liked Plo, and Wolffe seemed cool with an air of handsome seriousness that was always cool in clones.
I snap back to the briefing. Apparently, Koth had communicated the location of Grievous, and Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Plo would be going after him. We planned out some details to the best of our ability, My general would be leading the space attack and would attempt to lure Grievous onto his ship. Ahsoka would help lead Anakin's ships and me Plo's in the ensuing battle, as Skywalker and Koon would be freeing Eeth Koth. This was my first big command and a fairly high-risk one at that. Plo assured me that Commander Wolffe would help me to the best of his ability. We finished up the briefing, and I walked with Kenobi to go to a shuttle that would bring me to Plo Koon's forces.
"You excited for your first big command?" He asked gently.
"Hmm, a little nervous. I don't know his men and they don't know me, there's no valid reason for them to trust me aside from what little reputation I have and the fact that I'm a Jedi. Also, this could be part of how I'm remembered, and it's such a big responsibility. And I don't want to get anyone killed."
"I think they'll trust you. And yes, that's the burden of command. When people die you know they did so because of your orders. But they also did so for their beliefs, for the republic. You have to make sure casualties are not in vain."
"Thanks, General. See you on the other side," I say, giving him a nervous grin before walking to the shuttle that would take me to Plo's cruiser.
He responds, "Till we meet again!"
I arrived at General Plo Koon's cruiser fifteen minutes before we're supposed to enter hyperspace, and I head up to the bridge. Plo is already on a ship with Anakin, but he's on a holo call on one of the comm tables. I saunter up to it. "Ah, good. Ellor, meet Commander Wolffe. Wolffe, meet Padawan Commander Ellor Helagen." Plo gestures to the clone I saw earlier.
