The past few days have been really good for me. Everything seemed to be getting better and I hadn't felt super low in awhile. I'd been hanging out with Luca quite a bit and it made me feel so much better to have such fresh air in my surroundings.
Today he invited me to the carnival that they put up a few times every year. Without hesitation I obviously accepted the offer.
"So, you're talking to that guy from Saints?" Charlie asks over the phone.
"Well, not talking talking, just, you know, talking." I respond.
"That's really good, you seem happier without the burden of Kai."
"Kai isn't a burden, he just hasn't called me in awhile, there's nothing I can do about it."
"Yeah but if it were a month ago you would do anything to see why Kai hasn't contacted you."
"I guess. So, have you told Riley?"
I could hear her sigh, "I got my period. False alarm I guess?"
"Oh that's really good, but wasn't it like-"
They cut me off, "I got to go Ivy, I'll talk to you later." She hung up.
Weird.
I decide I should get ready a little early, just in case Luca texts me and wants to get food or something. Usually I don't dress up for many occasions, but for some reason I decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to wear a dress. So, I did. It wasn't anything special, and I still wore sneakers regardless, but I felt a little pretty.
I text Luca just to see what he's up to,
hey, do you want to do something before we go?
I'm watching my little brother and the nanny doesn't come till six or something
oh okay, no worries, see you later
:)
I decide that I should take a walk. A walk never hurt anyone.
I put on some music and walk around the town, going in and out of parks, and just being one with my surroundings, but apparently my leisure activities always seem to be ruined. I get a call and answer without looking at the contact.
"Hello?" I say.
"You are receiving a call from Kai Jean, would you like to accept?"
My stomach immediately filled with butterflies.
"I accept."
I hear his breath from the other line.
"Hey Iv." I hear him say.
"Hey Kai."
It became quiet, I could hear his fingernails scrape against the material of the phone.
"I'm sorry I haven't called."
I didn't really know what to say, I just looked at the ground for a few seconds, burning holes into all of the cracks in the concrete.
"I don't expect you to call everyday."
"I miss you. Come see me."
"Didn't you take me off the visitors list?"
"Yeah, but I put you back on."
"Why'd you take me off to begin with?"
"I didn't want you to show up when I wasn't ready to speak to you."
