✑ᴀCHAPTER SEVENTEEN - THE AFTER
THAT NIGHT, I cried myself to sleep. Theo had made certain that Montague wasn't in the way and I was extremely thankful for it. I had no intend to see him anymore.
Between the reprimands and the betrayal, Theo and I had re-established our bond. I had apologised multiple times between my sobs or only by going over the last upheavals, but each time my brother consoled me and guaranteed that I was well forgiven. Although he didn't want to admit it, I was convinced that I had ruined the outcome of his evening. It was the perfect opportunity to finally get closer to Daphne and he knew it. I had ruined his best shot.
That night, I remembered my sister's words. You have to be strong for yourself and Theodore. I was ashamed of myself. So ashamed for being weak, to only have taken into account my own sake. My brother should have been a priority. I had been extremely selfish and that wasn't the worst of it. I still didn't know how I would find the strength to be strong for the two of us. At least now I had him by my side and I knew this time I wouldn't let him go again. Staring at the ceiling, the sight of the cracked tiles let my thoughts drifted on everything I would have liked to blame her for or even the things I would have whimpered on her shoulders. Sticking on my pillow and imagining Emily's soft mop tickling me, I fell into slumber.
The rays of the sun tickled my skin and woke me up that morning. I knew it had to be late and everyone should be up already. It was finally the holidays and we could finally get out of the castle. I slowly got up from my bed and noticed Daphne who was still sleeping peacefully. Millicient and Tracey's bed were empty which let me presume that they were in the boys' dorm. Pansy had her curtains closed and I imagined that with the night she had been having, she wanted to sleep without any interruptions. So I slowly set my feet on the cold marble making my way towards the toilet. As I turned the doorknob the door surprisingly didn't open, it was locked. It must have been Pansy. I knocked lightly as I whispered her name and the door automatically opened. To my amazement, it wasn't Pansy, but Malfoy's golden locks and bare chest that greeted me. I couldn't help but gasp when I saw him, taken completely by surprise.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" I whispered not to wake the others. As I watched him eyed me up and down, I realised I was only in my pyjama clothes. A certain awkwardness seized me and I tried to cover myself with my arms.
"Good morning to you too, Nott, " he said coldly. Colder than usual.
"You didn't answer my question," he rolled his eyes.
"What the fuck can it do to you anyway, I'm only an immature jerk who only thinks about himself, right? But if you insist, I settled things with Pansy. We're back together," he spat without even daring to look my way. He sighed, annoyed and hit me on the shoulder as he walked over to Pansy's bed. I was still standing there, speechless that he apologised to Pansy. It wasn't Malfoy kind of thing to do, but I wondered if it had anything to do with what I had told him.
