AS WE ARRIVED in Dumbledore's office, Father told us that Emily's condition was critical. The healer wasn't giving her more than a few days or less. The news was inconceivable, suffocating even if it was predictable. I didn't want to believe it. But, as we appeared in St Mungo's hospital room that reeked of drugs and decomposition, reality struck me full in the face. She was there, my sister, but she was unrecognisable. Her skin was pale and hollow, her bones more defined by lack of nutrition and her eyes were bleak even empty.  Seeing her that way affected us all. My father was on the verge of tears which had not happened since my childhood as Theo had grown abruptly silent and pale as a ghost. While the two were out for some fresh air, I stayed at her bedside.

I had my head in my sister's arms while still sitting in the hospital chair. She gently stroked my dark locks with the softness of her hands to comfort me. Despite her gentle and comforting gestures, I could feel her hand shaking slightly under her touch. She was weak and there was little left to keep her alive. The hollow in my heart grew larger as the minutes went by. She was dying. Placing one of my locks behind my neck, she moved closer to me and gently placed a kiss on the top of my head. She then brushed my ear as she whispered , "Roisin, you must be strong for yourself and Theodore. I know him. He's gonna need you more than anything. He will conceal his pain, but he will need you and you will need him more than ever. "

I looked up at her. Just looking at her and knowing that this would be one of the last moments I would share with her was destroying me inside. She was so puny and she used to be so strong and confident. The Emily I knew wasn't the person in front of me, it was only what was left of her kind spirit.

"How do you want me to do this?" I was desperately asking my sister. Emily only sent me a heartwarming smile like the answer was obvious. She then took my chin so that I would look at her in the eyes.

"Look at me Rosie, you've always been the strongest of the three of us. Maybe you don't realise it today, but you always had that strength in you. No matter what happens, you have to be strong, for me. Be strong for me, Rosie " A tear escaped my eyelids at her words. I didn't feel strong at the moment and she knew it. I didn't want to let her go. Not so soon. "What if I can't?" She smiled tenderly and approached over to me. She gently placed another kiss on my forehead then reconnected her gaze with mine.

"Rosie, I know you'll find the strength. Promise me to keep Theodore out of harm. "

I was speechless at her demand. It looked like she knew what would happen. As she could predict that something was going to affect Theo or even me, it was like an instinct. I couldn't refuse her request, but inside I didn't know what to expect. Or even if I was going to be able to grant it. So I promised my sister to keep my brother out of harm. Gently, I fell asleep for the last time in my sister's comforting arms. She too fell asleep after being reassured by my words. A few minutes later, my father and my brother returned to the hospital room with tea and something to eat. In front of the scene, Theodore and Leopold took a chair and tried to get some rest.
