THE EVENING had been rather thrilling

THE EVENING had been rather thrilling. It had been at least a year or two since the Malfoys had hosted a ball in their sublime abode. I almost forgot how they could be more bearable in the company of my friends. Of course, there were always the lulling speeches of adults and some of Lucius's associates. But after their praise, there was often a traditional dance. Usually, I would rather apparate myself in the Forbbiden Forest than dance, but Blaise and Warrington made the evening a lot more interesting. My brother hadn't restricted himself either as he danced most of the evening with a pretty blonde who had also accompanied him to the Yule ball. They were absolutely adorable in a way that was not corny. More genuine.

A week had passed since the event at Malfoy's. The grayish weather had shown itself to be quiet. But in a peaceful way. It was almost freeing, just being able to read from my window frame all day long. No homework, no school, no obligation and especially no Graham. Oh he had written, many times even. But I didn't have the simple motivation to open his letters. They were therefore condemned to stroll on my bedside. Anyway, what was the point of answering him? I will have to confront him sooner or later.

But today, those letters still sealed on my bedside table were the least of my worries. I had been preparing most of the day for tonight's evening. It was New years. Not that I cared, but my shortening nights made me look horrible. But I was clearly not as bad as Theo who was almost chipping his nails in blood with stress.

"For the love of Merlin, can you stop that?" I turned from my mirror as he snapped out of his trance. He settled back on the edge of my bed before releasing a long sigh.

"I hope he drinks too much of Ogden's finest bottles and he missed the interrogatory." Theo bit his nails, again. I rolled my eyes to the back of my head as I adjusted my black long-sleeved dress.

"You're too worried. Father won't let him be too brutal. He should be fine knowing everything that happened this year. He's an austere elderly man but no evil bastard." I added as I finished my eye liner and Theo laughed sarcastically.

"Young girl you underestimate him! Who was supposed to be spending a week with him two years ago? It's me. I'm the one who spent two weeks with our maniac grandfather. Two weeks. So, even if you don't remember Grandpa has a knack for getting his questions answered and to get under your skin.", he persisted and I laughed a little in front of his paranoiac features.

"You're being a little dramatic, even starting to sound like him which is frightening. It's getting to your head, Theo, it's only supper. We went through worse!" I uttered and he shook his head frantically. "Well, I warned you. I'm not going to help you now." I rolled my eyes before leaving my room with my brother following behind.
