"GET OFF! GET OFF ME! I AINT DONE NOTHING! I-I HAVE RIGHTS!" I scream, desperately trying to escape the grip of the officers.
"Kyrah Asante! You're under arrest on suspicion of joint enterprise for the murder of Nathaneal Jones. You do not have to say anything. But, it may harm your defence if you don't. Anything you do say may be given in evidence."
My mum weeps and shouts for me. "KYRAH?! KYRAH!"
"MUM I DIDN'T DO IT! I DIDN'T DO NOTHING!"
Before I can say anything else, I'm pushed into a police car.
1 Week Later, Friday 5th July
2amThe police tag flashes red against my ankle.
The police went through their dash cam and saw me running back from the bush, after I buried the gun. They went back to check and found it. So they've come to the conclusion that Daniel and Neal died during a shootout between each other and I hid Daniel's gun to frame him as innocent. Rakai got arrested too, as they found a knife on him when they got to his unconscious body. So they assumed he was also part of it.
"Rakai Kennedy, you're under arrest for the possession of an offensive weapon with intent to use in joint eneterprise. You do not have to say anything. But, it may harm your defence if you don't. Anything you do say may be given in evidence."
"FUCK YOU FAM! I AINT DONE SHIT! LET ME GO FAM!"
Shit man. We forgot to take the knife off him when the boys ran off. We were focused on saving him. They confiscated it after and we didn't think anything of it, true say we forgot. Shit.
They waited for him to recover enough before they arrested him, and also had the decency to let us attend the funeral. Although they didn't have the decency to arrest us after the service? Hm.
I got moved from police custody to house arrest a few days ago, after my Lawyer argued that I was forced to hide it. And they can't prove I deliberately chose to help Daniel because there's no evidence of me having bad intentions towards Neal. Mr Jerry wrote a testimony that we were like best friends. And if it wasn't for him doing that I deffo would've been kept in jail. Instead, I was given "house arrest for a minimum of 60 days due to minor involvement, but if any more evidence is found against you, you will be formally charged and transferred into a juvenile facility."
All I can do now is pray Tyrell's body has been hidden or destroyed. If they find my fingerprints on him, I'm finished. That fight was probably a setup. Neal was evil man.
PAT. PAT.
A pattering sound persists outside my window, distracting me from my thoughts. At first I thought it was rain, but I'm starting to think it might be a bird pecking at the moss by my window. I put down my water and get up to shoo it away.
Once I've opened the curtains and looked outside, I see Brandon standing in my front garden with a bunch of pebbles in his hand. I roll my eyes and open the window.
"Rapunzel Rapunzel, let down your hair!" He whisper shouts.
I kiss my teeth, rubbing my eyes "Yes? What you doing here?"
He scoffs "Am I not your man?"
"What, the man that let me get bagged?"
He kisses his teeth "You know it weren't like that.... I done everything I could to stop them."
I sigh.
He did. But I felt so much bitterness when Rakai and I were carried off into police cars while everyone else was left Scott free. If anything Aaron or Miles should've been arrested, they're the ones that shot at Neal. All I did was bury a gun and I'm on flipping house arrest.
