6. - The screaming wind

After lunch, Zhan and I walked around the large cave room a bit with our flashlights, wanting to see where the passageway was, to the next section of the cave. However, we found nothing. Han then explained to us, when we asked, that the entrance is not to be found in here either. This, he said, was simply a cave that had probably been created by humans at some point.

"To get into the other cave, we have to get out of here, keep to the right for about 15 meters and then there is a narrow entrance. However, since the young lady from Poland is still not really well, we might go in there tonight or not until tomorrow morning. Fortunately, because of the darkness in there, it doesn't matter if we go in the evening or in the morning anyway." He explained. Then he said that he would have to go back to his car again to get more flashlights, helmet lamps and batteries.

And the view that our guide will leave us alone here for hours didn't please me at all. But then again, we need that stuff too. In addition, two other men will accompany him, my brother and one of the Romanians. They want to help him carry and my brother wants to bring some water bottles from our car right away, because we hardly have anything left, since we use the water to wash ourselves, to cook with it or to do the dishes.

Then while the others are gone, we will gather some wood for our fire and start packing our backpacks for our caving trip. Han will then check everything to make sure we have the most important things and don't carry anything unnecessary. The rest of the time, I'm sure will get around with Zhan. He seems to me to be someone who can't get enough of kissing. Just like me.

I'm surprised that no one has asked us about our swollen lips yet. I would happily explain to them then that it's because my BOYFRIEND and I kiss so much. haha

Although I've had a few crushes, Zhan is my first real boyfriend. I asked him earlier, before we went back to the cave for lunch, if we could maybe try a relationship. He said yes.

What I think is great is, during our conversations, in between all the kissing, I found out that Zhan lives close to me and also has his own apartment. These are good conditions for us to have not only a summer flirt, but also a serious and lasting relationship. Zhan is also the first person with whom I can really imagine this. And we've only known each other for a few days.

I would like to write more about other things than just Zhan, but at the moment Zhan is my favorite topic and apart from that nothing else is happening that needs to be mentioned here.

After almost seven hours, the three returned. And, they were not alone. They had brought with them a couple who had lost their way in the forest. Both 40 years old. This story is really worth to be written down.

They said they were on vacation and were on their way to visit relatives when they suddenly had a flat tire. And this happened at the parking lot of our cars, of all places. Since they didn't have a spare tire with them and couldn't connect with their cell phone, they had no choice but to wait.

To wait for us! They thought we were a group of hikers and would soon return from the forest, because the storm was coming. But we did not come. And because they couldn't walk all the way to the next locality, they just stayed in their car. All night long!

In the morning when the woman woke up, she saw, or rather she said, a little girl running into the forest. Since she saw no one else, she assumed that this girl was alone and did not want her to get lost in the forest. So she jumped out of the car and followed the girl and her husband followed her.

They were wandering around in the forest for hours. The husband said that his wife also didn't let him stop her from continuing to look for the girl. When he was asked if his wife could have imagined the girl due to mental illness, because he did not see any girl, he said that she was absolutely healthy and had never been like that before.

As if in a delusion, he said, his wife was running around calling for the girl. She did not even seem to notice her husband. But the man who introduced himself to us as Rin also said that his wife May had lost a child a few years ago, before they met, and she might have seen her dead daughter in this girl.

When May finally came to her senses, they had already gotten way too lost and were wandering around in the woods until Han, my brother and the Romanian came upon them. And that wasn't even 500 meters from the cave here. And the three of them needed so long, because they were looking for the owners of the car, which had a flat tire. They were afraid that the owners of the car might be lost. Well, that's what happened.

At the moment, the wife is in Yanli and Missy's tent sleeping. Her husband is sitting with my brother and Cheng. Han is also with them. They are talking about May and whether she really could have seen a girl. Han doubts this, however, because the nearest towns are too far away and the three of them also walked up and down the road a mile each way, but there was no other vehicle.

Did May really see a girl? Or was she just imagining the girl? And if there was a girl, why did she run into the forest all by herself and not respond to May's calls?

It's almost midnight now. Not much more has happened. May was asleep and Rin joined her later. Yanli will sleep in our tent tonight and Missy will sleep with Meng Yao and Leni since May and Rin will sleep in their tent.

Strangely I find, although the two have lost their way and got the fright for life because of it, and actually only wanted help because of their car breakdown, they want to accompany us tomorrow morning to the cave. They don't want to bother us and just spend the time with us until we go back to our cars.

I heard May say to her husband that she suspects that little girl might be in the cave. Oh god, I hate it when it's creepy. But I hate it even more when it's creepy and there are crazy people around. I can't understand why Han is okay with them coming with us? And even my brother said he didn't have a problem with it. Our friends from abroad even shrugged their shoulders. Do they understand anything at all?

Zhan is as enthusiastic as I am about the idea of them accompanying us. "I don't have a good feeling about this. What if she goes crazy again and just runs off? Then we'll have to look for her, and Han said that even he doesn't know all the passages in the cave." Said Zhan as he and I went outside for a while.

I absolutely agreed with Zhan and said, "I think she just imagined the girl. How could she have gotten here? Without a vehicle and all by herself? Hardly."

It's now almost three in the night and something totally weird and creepy just went on here. We were all already asleep when suddenly we heard loud screams.

We all rushed out of our tents and grabbed the first thing we could grab to use as a weapon. Zhan grabbed me, um yeah. Well, anyway, there was this incredible screaming that sounded like a woman was about to suffer the greatest pain.

Han said to us to stay calm. He went outside to look and came back laughing. He showed us a strange construct, what was in the trees and made the strong wind into a screaming wind. Han laughed, but the rest of us did not. Because none of us had made anything like that out of wood, which resembles the pipe of an organ, and then hung it in the trees. What for? To scare us almost to death in the night?

I don't know why, but Han wasn't worried one bit and even my brother and Cheng were absolutely chilled. They were trying to think of some reason how the thing got there. Maybe the wind carried it there. As if!

To reassure us who didn't think it was just a coincidence, Han offered to stand guard. He, my brother, Cheng and one from Poland, want to take turns keeping guard.

Before we went back to the tents, Zhan and I took a closer look at the pipe or whatever it is. It appears to be old, since the wood is discolored and cracked. Actually, a whistle should have sounded when someone blows into it or, like outside, when the wind blows into it. But something is stuck in the cavity, which probably causes this screaming sound.

Of course, that still doesn't explain how it could get into the trees in front of the cave. The thing weighs at least two and a half kilograms, which makes the wind thing even more unlikely, at least in my eyes.

Zhan and Yanli fell asleep again, and now I'm going to lie down and try to sleep, too. Later there is still the cave before us and the couple. I'm almost sure we won't have an easy time with them. Well, unfortunately I have nothing to say. Because I would have brought them back to the road and called a breakdown service with the satellite phone. But what the heck, nobody listens to me anyway, except Zhan. Good night!
