25 - The torture chamber of a devil

André had tried his trick again at the door. However, he couldn't get the lock open this time. He even tried to remove the lock by using his scalpel as a screwdriver. Well, that was not a good idea, because it broke the blade off the scalpel.

We also checked all the other windows to see if we could open them and climb down. But unfortunately, most of the windows are not only made of bulletproof glass, but also constructed in such a way that they cannot be opened by hand. It makes one wonder if they have too much money? And why this protection, if nobody comes to this place voluntarily anyway?

We also checked the other three doors in the corridor. Two lead to empty rooms and one door leads to a small stairwell. Without electricity, it is absolutely dark there. However, by using our flashlights, we could see that it goes up and down. But because of the lack of light in the stairwell, no one really wants to go in there.

But I'm afraid we have no other choice. We have to find a way out of here. Especially because we didn't have time to think about water and food during our escape. There is no toilet here either, at least we haven't found one yet. And on top of that, we don't know how long the door barrier will hold.

If you are close enough to the secret door, you can hear the creatures behind it. They know we are here. They scratch at the door and try to get through to us. As long as we still have daylight, we are safe. But what if we still can't find an exit until dark? I've given up on the possibility that we'll get power again by now.

Besides, there is still the open question of who hanged the three. Is this killer or are the killers among us? We can't ask Sarah and Brian anymore. But, what about Han and André, the two are said to have finally left the station with Sarah and Brian for over two hours. Could they really be murderers?

I can't and don't want to believe it, or even think it. But, if it was Brian and Sarah, it certainly wasn't them alone. The two of them alone could never have overpowered the three of them, kept an eye on them while they made ropes out of bed sheets and then one by one threw them over the banister and hanged them that way.

But were Han and André really capable of taking the lives of three people just like that? Yes, they were a danger to us. But does that justify killing them?

After Zhan and I already decided yesterday to do whatever it takes and put up with whatever it needs to be to get out of here, we volunteered to explore the stairwell.

We took our flashlights and my brother gave me his camera with his camera light. His memory cards have long since been used up and he hasn't recorded anything for days. Although that would have actually been a worthwhile recording for once, how we learned about these creatures and how we had to flee from them.

Zhan and I started our exploration walk at 1 pm. And, we decided to take the stairs leading up. Since we had absolutely no idea how many floors there even were here and what else to expect, we prepared ourselves for anything. But, can you really prepare for anything?

The small staircase and its relatively narrow steps reminded me of those old buildings from the past. The steps themselves were quite high and I think someone with short legs would probably have a hard time walking up them. At least, if there were more than two floors and you had to go higher.

Even in this stairwell, which has been painted white and gray and their banisters are an old olive green, there were pictures of these doctors and nurses from back in the day. I think the institute really worshipped them, I can't explain it any other way.

The first staircase with nine steps was done, followed by a small landing, then another 9 steps. It doesn't get any higher than that. That means no other floors, except the one going down.
