32 - Return to the Institute 3 (Last Chapter)

Now, before I get to my last entry, I want to briefly tell you about my marriage proposal to Zhan. We had just been together for a year when I realized that I wanted to marry Zhan. I knew it before, but by then I was so sure that I went into the city to a jeweler in the morning and bought two silver rings.

I bought a big bouquet of red roses, went to the hairdresser, got a bottle of our favorite wine and drove home. Zhan was sitting in the garden, reading a book.

When Zhan saw me, with the roses, the wine, and my new hairstyle, he stood up and looked at me with big shining eyes. I had thought about my words very carefully and put them together. But when I saw Zhan standing there, once again amazed that he looked handsome and cute at the same time, everything I had planned was gone.

I put the wine on our garden table, handed Zhan the roses and took out the little box with the rings in it, and before I could say anything, Zhan hugged me and said, "Yes of course I want to marry you."

I was taken aback, sure he could guess my thoughts as an empath, but still I was taken aback. I said to him, "I haven't said anything yet."

Zhan laughed and replied, "There's no need to, I can feel very clearly what you're feeling, much more strongly today than usual. And it doesn't matter what you say, whether it's a simple marry me or will you marry me, or a long text, my answer is always yes."

We hugged, kissed, and put rings on each other. Then we had a glass of wine and called our families. So we were engaged for a year before we were then married in Europe.

But now to my last entry in this diary. There are exactly three pages left, enough for a good ending to an adventure story that turned into a horror trip, in which I found the love of my life and learned that not everything is always as it seems. I learned that there are people with special abilities. That there seems to be no limit to the cruelty that people can inflict on others. And that secrets could cost you your life.

But most of all, I also learned what fear really means. Fear of the dark, I still have today. And even today, Zhan and I don't sleep in the dark.

Our arrival at the edge of the forest and meeting with the soldiers went as planned. But this time we were lucky and didn't have to walk through the forest first, past the clearing, past the cave, or even into it.

We were all driven in three Army cars along a newly created, direct route to the Crane Asylum grounds. It took only half an hour for us to get there.

Outside on the property and the ruins of the barracks, armed soldiers stood keeping an eye on the entrance to the tunnel. We were told that the creatures had been eliminated, but that there might still be some Hyper Sapien hiding somewhere.

Therefore, we were given not only protective clothing, but also handguns and a very detailed briefing on how to unlock and use them in an emergency.

One of the soldiers explained to us that they found and killed 91 Hyper Sapien so far. At first, with the kill count already at 56 Hyper Sapien, they assumed that was all of them. But again and again new ones came crawling out of some holes. Since these however no more food and no water find and are very weakened and therefore much more harmless than at that time. Nevertheless, we should not underestimate them if we see one or more creatures. However, he does not expect that we will see any. Such were his words.

The double glass doors of the office building were wide open, we followed the four soldiers. We left when they left, we stopped when they did.

Our first stop was when we were in the office building and standing in front of the Secret Door. We immediately remembered that there was no electricity the last time we were here and we were afraid that we would have to enter a dark basement. But, it was brightly lit. Brighter than before the power went out.
