Color and Creed
Bearing the brunt of past generations through toil and pain
Lacking what they want and need out of hate and malice
Able to do many things but never allowed by law and country
Caged from freedom like a canary in a coal mine
Knowing what their future may hold at any time
Living in fear of those meant to protect
Idiots and the ignorant run riot over the innocent
Vying for a new future in the land of the free
Eager to mend or keep the scared legacy of history
Suffering for one is suffering for many
Matters of color and creed go unheard by those in charge
Anger and annoyance at present times
Tears for the victim turn to a waterfall of despair
Torn by a society fallen from good graces
Every soul has a story to tell
Rage and happiness are both colour-blind
Indecent actions fuel the fires of protest
New tensions join the ones of yore
Greatness and prosperity should be for all to enjoy
One man should be as equal as another
Denied his liberties he should not by his compatriot
When will history's lessons be learned?Even in times of tribulation and angst
Turning to those who fought for what was right
Rising above barriers in our way
Useless stereotypes cloud the minds of many
Skin color, eye color, hair color, all are only colors, nothing more
These colors are all beautiful and expressive
Every generation must rise up above the darkness of ignorance
Quite the spectacle in the modern age
Useless speeches fail to placate the angered
All involved look for a solution to the travesty
Living in peace and harmony would suffice at least
Indeed, the world reckons with many foes and villains
The only true race is the human race, all of us
Young or old, black or white, male and female, straight and gay, religious and not, and all in between
Freedom must come to all after centuries of disregardOur fellows must be allowed to bloom like buttercups in spring
Racism is one of man's many plagues
A book by its cover must never be judged
Love conquers hate after many hard-fought battles
Lessons must be learned, and lives must matter
