Flutters on the Golden Horn

Another day began on the empire's seat

As a delicate swarm flew to a beat

From the country they came, to a city of fame

Constantinople was the name

Over the walls the flies rained down

A kaleidoscope of color could be found

Their eyes looked all over for the heavenly place

Across the city by the palace and bay

Prisons grew happy by the sight

A riot of laughter, not fights

They graced the churches like angels from above

Resting on statues beside docile doves

The cisterns reflected the living rainbow

Traders threw money and jewels below

Over hills the flutter like a brood

Red like blood or cloven hood

Blue like the sea that fanned

Small like a gem in hand

White like the brightest light

Dotted like the busy night

They graced the forums and many a street

While life continued beneath their feet

A harbor or two gave them safe pass

Closer they came to break their fast

Smaller grand homes were delighted to see

A marvel much better than a common bee

The greatest of all temples was next for the flies

Passing by quickly with quick goodbyes

Roars in the Hippodrome led the way

The magnificent palace and the flowers that lay

At the back end over the sea and streams

The butterflies moved along wooden beams

Groves of flowers in the royal court

Radiant and beautiful buds of much retort

The flies nestled to each flower

Enjoying the nectar bounty for over an hour

This was their new home worthy of a king

An Eden awoke by the nearest bell ring
