The role model minority
Hate can rise from any source
It hits hard with no remorse
It comes and goes like rising tides
And leaves few we can confide
We are people just like the rest
Trying twice as hard to be our best
We have culture, history, love, and loss
But we remain trodden on like moss
We came to find a familiar life
But were soon driven out at the start of strife
It only got worse, riots with jeers
Left out entirely and driven to tears
Suspicions turn to envy
Perpetual foreigner not to be
The East has promise, just like the West
Birds migrate for new nests
The second big war drove us out as before
To camps inland, with rights no more
As more wars ended, you took us in
Still hated but trying to fit in
There is more than one Asian, as with a family
As with a people and as with a country
We came and worked, toiled, and learnt
Became worth the money we earnt
Or did we get too good for our own sake?
When we asked, you gave us help fake
Ignored and left to our own devices
Cast out with higher costs and other prices
A model that gives out false reality
Other peoples shamed is a tragedy
Doctors to cure a virus of hate
Students with degrees to stop hate
We are not all wealthy or smart
But we take all insults to heart
They find someone in us to take the blame
For phenomena we never knew came
Hate is a virus
Opinions divide us
Facing hate should not be our fate
But for better it is never too late
Not a chopstick but a dagger in the heart
How bad it came from the start
Respect is what we need
Advice we have to heed
We have feelings that are hurt
We have been under feet like dirt
But we all have voices that know that to say
Stop Asian Hate and save the day
