When the door opened, I quickly got inside my condo and placed myself on my bed and underneath my comforter, whispering how tired I am from work. I've encountered a lot of stupid people today, grabe! Because of a surprise department evaluation, I figured out a lot of incompetent workers are getting paid monthly by doing nothing. Not regretting what I did earlier, I texted Santana and told her that we're open for job hiring for tomorrow—maraming nasesante. They deserved it.
"Greis, are you home?" Rumzuell's voice coming from the living room. "Kain tayo?" he must've forgotten what I said two days ago, "Ay pasama na lang pala kumain sa labas. Please." Or maybe not.
"You can cook for yourself."
"Samahan mo ko, please" he sounded drained which was quite alarming. I noticed his phone playing a video, isang lalaki na magvo-vlog ng pinapanood niyang wrestling match. He turned it off and waited for me to get changed into something casual and not a suit. Tahimik kaming dalawa sa sasakyan, "How's work?" I asked. He blinked twice as he stole a glance, "Ayos lang naman. Sorry, may iniisip lang."
"Ano?"
"Chismosa ka na, Engineer? Curious ka?" he teased "You must like me a lot dahil curious ka na sa buhay ko. Nakakakilig naman isipin." ang ingay na naman niya! I rolled my eyes and told him "Ang ingay mo na ulit. Ganiyan ka ba kiligin?" but I must admit, I only like his silence when everything seems to be so chaotic—it gives me peace and space to breathe. To my surprise, he didn't bring me to a restaurant for him to eat but to a mini arena located nearby. Naghihiyawan ang mga tao sa loob and we went to a booth where he bought two match tickets. What? A wrestling tournament?!
I was hesitant to get inside the closed arena. Ang ingay ng crowd, they were all cheering and rooting for a contender habang ako ay walang kilala ni isa sa apat na lalaking nandoon sa entablado "This is gonna be fun!" Sabi ni Rumzuell.
"No, this is not going to be. Ang ingay, ang bantot ng place." I complained "Bakit ba tayo nandito?"
"Its starting!"
I flinched as I watched every motion they did. I saw how hard a contender was getting through while being strangled by the other. I looked at Rum and held his wrist, grasping it with so much terror that I am witnessing. He noticed and snaked an arm behind me, caressing it gently like he's putting a baby to sleep. Rum did it—he silenced my fear and sustained me til the end. Rum wasn't also vocal but I know he had his own choice in mind "Ancient Greek Wresting Rules apply in these kinds of matches. Except hindi sila covered in oil and naked, back in the day—" he stopped talking when a contender tore his boxer brief because of his victory. I'm glad his back was facing us. The crowd clapped and cheered. Bigla akong walang nakita at pinatayo, the next thing I knew, he dragged me out of the place while laughing.
"Nakita mo ba?" he asked.
"You covered my eyes, how was I supposed to see? At hindi na ako bata! I know what crotches look like." I rolled my eyes and then he laughed his ass out "Oh bakit? Open minded ako!"
"Tumatawa lang ako eh." he laughed and gathered the components of his proper disposition. Rum took my hand and dragged me to a place nearby at talaga kuminang-kinang ang mga mata ko when we got inside. Ang lakas niya sa mga bars! VIP ata siya dito eh because he knew the waiter and the bartender.
"Capt, asan na yung isa? Hindi siya yun?" said the bartender.
My ears rang and I could feel my serotonin dropping but of course I didn't make it visible on my face. I pretended to be deaf at the moment but was subjected to a silent investigation by myself, it could be long before we even met. Sino ba ako para magtanong or even feel bad about it when he already said that he's been dating a lot so he can settle down. Rumzuell told them to shut up and tried to convince me na nagbibiro lang sila "You didn't have to explain. Wala akong pake." I whispered back. I mean like—why should I care? It's none of my business to dig into his history. Hindi naman kailangan eh.
