Watching Izuku fail would've been funny any other day, but today was not one.
A few days had passed and Izuku was having immense trouble trying to clear the course. Sure he had gotten pretty far even if he wasn't the most athletic person in the world, even with the 10 months of training. But to his credit, he never gave up.
Xia was honestly thought it was pretty good progress that the OFA user was making. Obviously it wasn't the progress she wanted, but it was good progress nonetheless. Xia was a perfectionist. Not all the the time, but in the times like this, she was.
For the past few days, she had pushed the boy to the brink and his progress was showing. She had been pleasantly surprised at how much the boy was willing to push himself and how much he could push past pain. She had put him through the simulator before each session and he would do the course with bruises on his body and never complained. Honestly, she couldn't ask for a better student. He was seriously impressing the girl who was extremely hard to impress. Izuku of course didn't know that because she never told him that. She only yelled at him to improve and would put out his weaknesses. He hadn't yet figured out the girls methods, which were painfully obvious to herself.
"WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT MIDORIYA! WHERE DID ALL THAF UPPER BLDY STRENGTH GO!" she yelled at him as he fell off the salmon ladder and hit the ground with a loud thud as he groaned from his position on the floor.
His arms felt like jelly, he legs felt like they would snap if he took another step, his chest was rising and falling so fast, and his heart was beating so fast, it was surprising it didn't pop out of his chest.
"I'm gonna need five sensei" he called out to her, exhausted with the constant work. Even when he was with All Might, he at least felt like there were times he could relax, even if he didn't want to. The fact that he barely had time for a break with Xia should've been right up his alley, but he wasn't prepared for the sheer force of her training. It looked simple on paper, but the intensity was cranked up to a thousand. The fact that he was still breathing human air was a relief and shock to his system.
"Do you think the villains will give you time to break?" Her voice reached him, and before he had a chance to ask what she meant, the training bots came out and went straight for him. He couldn't say he didn't expect that, he was just so exhausted, it had t been on his mind at all. Where she got the money for juman sized training bots, he did not know, and he wasn't gonna have to time to figure out and he rolled out of the way of multiple hits that were coming his way.
The bots weren't so much trouble for Izuku, but with him being tired, coupled with the fact he couldn't really control his quirk did make it challenging. Xia was not one to pull her harshness with this training regiment.
"You said you wanted to take up the mantle but you can't even beat these robots?! Give up Midoriya!"
Izuku tried to pay no attention to the woman. Mostly because he trying not to get pummeled, but also because he knew what she was doing. She had been doing it the last few days anyway. She was trying to break him to build him back up, but his conviction was high. Well... not so much conviction, but stubbornness.
It wasn't that Xia didn't like his mindset on being the new number 1 hero and being like All Might, but he was trying to get something that was unattainable. There would never be another All Might. The things Toshinori did would never be matched. The things he made people feel would never be replicated. He was a one of one type person and hero. It was great that the new generation wanted to be like him and he better than him, but in her mind, it wouldn't happen. All they could strive to be was something different and make their own path. They focused too much on the legend of one man, and that would be the downfall of this hero society. All Mights presence had made hero's lazy. They lacked the fight that previous generations of hero's had. It was beyond frustrating to the immortal.
She loved Toshinori, she really did, but his the things he did with One For All changed the hero society, and not for the better. It was why she was training the boy like this. Because he was so set on being like his idol, he was losing sight on the most important thing; being his own hero.
But now was not a time for her to break the boy like that. Now was the time for her to get him on the track to controlling his powers.
Izuku was busy with the bots, outsmarting two of them and making them crash into each other and shut down before getting past another breaking off it's head with a kick. One very good thing about all this endless work, was that Izuku's base strength, speed, endurance and stamina was improving pretty rapidly. Even if she was a harsh trainer, the boy had to admit to himself that she definitely gave him results.
"You're moving slower than usual Greenie! I don't have all day... oh wait! Yes I do! But I'm tired, now hurry it up!"
Her voice wasn't as distracting as it was the first day, but the way it boomed over the confined space was enough to throw him off and the last two robots performed a double team move and took him off his feet while shooting a foot across sternum.
Xia winced slightly seeing the boy have all the wind left in system taken out of him. Maybe she should've turned the difficulty down a tiny bit. But the best way to learn is getting your ass kicked. If anybody knew that, it was her. She had been getting her ass kicked for most of her lifetimes, so she knew the feeling all too well.
She shut down the last two and made her way down to the boy who was sprawled on the ground, his chest moving up and down rapidly, trying to catch his breath.
"Get up, I know they didn't hit you that hard" she said as she grabbed his shirt and pulled him up, making sure to hold on as he stumbled his way onto his feet.
"Have you fought these things?!" He wheezed out as he looked at her incredulously.
"Yes. I'm sure I have faced my own robots before" she said with a raised eyebrow at the dumb question.
"Oh... oh yeah. Sorry" he said, awkwardly, rubbing the back of his in embarrassment.
"Clean up and let's go over the footage and then go to sleep. Tomorrow you're gonna clear the course so we can get started in our next phase" she tells him, walking over to the monitors, hearing his footsteps following behind her.
"You're getting better at your base without OFA, so you should be able to handle some of it at least. The problem you have is that you don't know how to properly manipulate the power" Xia tells him, as the monitor shows his battle with the robots and him just barely dodging the attacks.
"How do I do that though?" Izuku asks. Xia can tell he's frustrated with himself and as much as she wants to skip steps, she can't. Shortcuts only hurt you in the end.
"I'll save that for when you finally clear the course in shot. Remember what I said-
"No shortcuts, yea I know. I'm just saying that I want to be better"
"And you will be. But Rome wasn't built in a day, and that power circulating in your body is the culmination of eight other people. All of them have used that strength most likely one way, expect for one. Nobody knows what the hell is up with it, but I do know that you're the one who has it now. Stop trying to emulate All Might and be yourself. I'm not sorry for being harsh because you need to come to terms with that. Do you understand?" Xia said to him. She wasn't gonna say it, and she still hadn't said it all in words, but she knew Izuku was smart. He would figure out what she meant. And she could tell so by the dejected look on his face. She just pays him on the back and shuts the monitor off.
"Take off and get some sleep. And fix the frown. I'm not saying you can't be him, but it's not realistic. Be your own hero" she says, walking away from the young hero in training.
Izuku knew what she was talking about. He had been thinking about it ever since the first time he saw her. It was obvious to him that he wanted to be like All Might, who didn't? He was... well All Might! He was the best! And what exactly was the bad thing with wanting to be like All Might?
Izuku then decided to make her see he could be like All Might. That he could be the new Symbol of Peace.
