The heart of the matter
Season Four, Episode FourTHAT MORNING, Esme had been on the phone with her mom, Bella, while she was on her way to the elevator before she was to start her rounds.
"Yes mom, I understand, but I have work on the weekend—" Esme tried explaining but she was cut off by her mother.
"Listen, you have an opportunity to scrub in on this once in a lifetime surgery! Just have someone take your shifts and boom I'll fly you out to Boston on the private jet." Bella tried telling her and Esme sighed deeply.
"Fine mom. I'll see what I can do. Also please tell me that Catherine Avery isn't going to be in that surgery. Because I do not plan on talking to her. But bye, rounds are starting," Esme told her mom before pressing end.
Esme's mother, Bella, had worked in the same hospital as Catherine Avery much to Esme's annoyance. They both worked at Brigham and women's hospital in Boston. Her mother was the chief of Cardiothoracic surgery. Obviously.
Once Esme made it on the elevator, the doors were about to close just before a tall man came rushing in with navy scrubs. He looked at her for a mere moment before having his back face her.
Soon enough, the doors closed and Esme started closely at him.
She's never seen him before around the hospital. She had a feeling he was new or that she wasn't paying attention.
They both soon made it on the same floor and they both went the opposite directions.
Esme looked behind her shoulder to look back at him, only for her to catch him doing the same to her. She immediately looked forward and blushed, not expecting for that to happen.
She soon made her way over to Alex and she saw her interns waiting for her at the counter.
"I don't see any charts!" Esme shouted at them and they all went running.
Esme soon put on a sweet smile as she made it in front of Alex, "Will you work for me on Saturday?"
"What's in it for me? Mer asked the same thing and I said no," Alex told in a bored tone as he looked down at his clipboard.
"Well, what do you want?" Esme asked.
"Take Norman off my hands today," Alex told her as he looked in someone's direction.
"Who?" Esme asked, a confused look on her face.
"The world's oldest intern. I've got my interns in the pit, and he's only gonna slow me down," Alex explained to her and Esme glared at him.
"Ageist." Esme commented in a annoyed tone.
"Deal?"
"Fine," Esme agreed as she sent him a smile.
