Chapter 15

Later that day was my first date with Matty since we broke up, I was excited, I am excited, but I also worried about the 15th , that was three days away so I should not be worrying too much, but that's just how I was. I shook the thought from my head and began to focus on what I wear on my date, and then it hit me, I would wear what I wore on my real first date with Matty. The destination of the restaurant Matty was taking me was a good distance away, but he insisted on wanting to pick me up regardless of him living at least fifteen minutes away, even though it would have been faster if we'd just gone separately, he insisted.

I stepped outside, and when Matty was walking up the sideway his eyes were glued to me, he didn't even watch where he was going and nearly tripped on a crack, it made me giggle and cracked a smile too. "You're just as beautiful as the day of our first date", he said as he caressed my face, a blush crept up on my face, and he just laughed it off. Leaning in for a kiss, I did the same, and we got into it for a few seconds until someone behind us cleared their throats. "Well good evening to you guys too", the voice belonged to no one other than Kaleb, "don't you look gorgeous" Kaleb said eying me with a smirk on his face, Matty hid me behind him glaring at Matty, "dude, fuck off!", Matty spat, Kaleb raised his hands in defeat and walked away. "What's he even doing here?", I asked, "remember the day you went out, Kaleb didn't come to work on the project, and just gave us his part he had done, he and Maddie are going to check it over the project and put it together", Matty explained, and my simple answer was, "oh, okay".

Our drive was lengthy, but we kept each other company until we got to the restaurant. When we arrived Matty got of the car quickly and came to my side to open the door. We got inside and found a seat, it wasn't a fancy restaurant where we had to dress up or anything, it was just that the food tasted good, Matty and I would save the fancy restaurants for later when the relationship would build back up again. We continued the last conversation we were having in the car until we arrived at the restaurant, we were laughing and everything until Matty's face became serious, "Hey Jess can I ask you a question?", "yeah shoot", I responded looking him in the eye, "What's the real deal between you and Kaleb?", my face after that question froze, but my eyes were still on Matty, I was not expecting him to ask me that question.

"I thought Maddie told you everything", I responded clearing my throat which prompted me to sit up straighter in my chair. Matty rubbed the back of neck nervously looking down, then he raised his head, "yeah but just in case she missed something", "there isn't really much to tell", I was really hoping a waiter would come and ask us anything because I didn't want this to be awkward. "Well that time at the club when I had my eighteenth birthday party, Kaleb and I got to talking while we were on a walk because we wanted air and a quiet place to talk, he ended up kissing me, and we both unsure at first, but we got comfortable, and we made out some more, from there we hung around more and more every other day, we got to know a lot about each other and we were enjoying each other's company, until one day he was there and the other he wasn't, he gave me some bullshit excuse, ignored me for months until we got together, which is when we started making small talk with each other", I finished in one breath, Matty looked like he did at the begging of my rant, his face was looking a little bored, he did however look a little upset. "So he started to be friendly with you after the fact that we got together?, why?", he asked confused and mad at the same time, "look Matty, I don't know, but this date has nothing to do with him, so can we just enjoy ourselves, and stop taking about Kaleb hmm", I took my hand placed it over his and rubbed the top of his hands with my thumb finger, and that seemed to calm him down.

We did enjoy ourselves, and the mood did lighten up after we were done talking about Kaleb, which I was thankful for because I didn't want to start over our relationship on a bad note. We left a few hours later, after dessert and everything, I even packed some food for my mum and my sister, even though my sister was getting on my nerves lately. Our drive home wasn't as long as when we came because it was later, and ther weren't many cars on the road. Forty-five minutes later we arrived at my house. "Well this is me", I laughed nervously and rubbed my hands together, "yep", he responded popping his p, "well do we kiss goodnight orr....", I lead on the sentence, he looked over at me and started stretching over me, "and he hugged me, I smiled at the gesture, I guess we weren't moving fast at all, and I was getting out the car, he pulled my arms and I sat back down, he turned my face towards his and gave me a chaste kiss on my lips, and this time when I was going out of his car I really did.

Walking up my walk way, I was looking down smiling, not realizing that there was someone sitting on the porch chairs, "so I trust you guys had a good time?", the voice started, my head snapped up an looked around, and I groaned, "why are you still here Kaleb", he got up and started walking towards me, and I walked back. "I was waiting for you, didn't know you and lover boy got back together", I rolled my eyes at his response, "not that it's any of your business but we are trying to get back together, taking it one step at a time, so I don't need you ruing in everything for me this time too okay", I let out that entire sentence in on go sounding exhausted at the end, which I was. "Good for you", he said, he was still moving closer towards me until there was little space between us. We looked at each other for a while, then form where he was standing he leaned in slowly, but surely, and I pushed him, "no Kaleb, not this time", I held up my finger at him and started poking him in the chest, "I am not in the mood for your bullshit, your hot then your cold towards me, you were the one who ended it with me , you ignored my existence until I was with Matty and now you're at it again, no!", and with that last no I pushed him enough to make him lose his balance, tears started to fall and I quickly rushed inside and shut the door.

Wasting no time, I started walking up the stairs, still looking down, "where were you?", my sister asked with her arms across her chest, I looked up and said nothing, I just detoured from her direction and went straight to my room. This had to be the most frustrating thing that I ever went through, tests and projects in school were less frustrating. Why couldn't he just leave me alone, he was toying with me, he was playing with my emotions when he wanted, it was infuriating to say the least. Again I was staring at my ceiling, and I hoped that it would be the last, Matty was someone who likes me even loves me, treats me right and is direct with me and I liked him back, but with Kaleb, I felt a connection not as much as when we were together, but it was still there, he wanted me, but was too cowardly to say that, and him toying with me is not something I need in my life.
