Joy, Mali and Calum had decided to stay through the evening and into the next day. Marianne decided to go out with Joy for a quick shop at the mall. Mali, of course, wanted to let her little brother get better acquainted with Ashleigh. And she knew that she would only be in the way if she stayed in the house. "Do you mind if I come along?" She asked Marianne as she stood near the door.
"Of course not. By all means, you can come, but we will most likely not be in any shops that you can find things in." Marianne told her.
Mali laughed. "That's not going to be a problem."
"All right then. Ashleigh, don't do anything that I wouldn't normally let you do. If the doorbell rings, don't answer it because I have my keys. And please stay on the basement and main floors, love." Marianne gave her daughter instructions as she put on her high-heeled sandals, and picked up her bag.
"Okay, Mom. Don't worry, I've been home alone several times before. I'll be just fine." Ashleigh shifted her weight to her right leg.
Marianne let out a small sigh. "You won't be alone, Ashleigh. You know exactly what I'm telling you, yet you're trying to be argumentative. Would you just agree to what I'm asking of you so that I can leave?"
"Yes, Mom. I'll do as you ask. Have fun at the shops." Ashleigh put on a smile, and ushered the three out of the house. She closed and locked the door before groaning, and running her hand through her hair.
"You alright?" Calum asked as he walked a few steps toward Ashleigh.
"Yeah." A small smile flashed across Ashleigh's lips. She rocked back and forth on her feet as Calum looked at her.
"So what did you want to do?" Calum asked. He avoided making an awkward eye contact with Ashleigh.
"I was planning on just taking a nap or something. You can join if you'd like. I mean, like, in your own bed, because my Mom had me set up the guest rooms. So you can sleep in there if you'd like to." Ashleigh laughed nervously.
"How about we watch a movie?" Calum suggested.
"Perfect." Ashleigh began to walk down to the basement, Calum following close behind. "What kind of movie were you thinking of? Don't choose anything scary, or I'll turn right back around and take that nap."
"Nah," Calum laughed. "I was thinking maybe a Sci-Fi fantasy movie. Either Sherlock or Doctor Who, something like that.
Ashleigh sat on the couch and took hold of the remote. "So are those fluffy fantasy, or hardcore fantasy?"
"I don't know, a little bit of both," Calum said. "What kind of movies do you usually watch?"
"Fluffy and romantic movies that come on Hallmark Channel. They literally do Christmas all year long."
Wait," Calum furrowed his eyebrows, "Don't they make birthday cards, not movies?"
"They do both, but that's besides the point." Ashleigh said. She pushed the Netflix button on the smart TV remote, and let the application load.
"Can I choose the episode?" Calum asked as Ashleigh logged in.
"Sure," Ashleigh replied. She handed Calum the remote, and he began to click through seasons and episodes of Doctor Who.
"How about this one?" Calum stopped on an episode that showed an angel statue, and a girl in the preview image. He clicked on it, and more images showed up, along with the episode summary. There was a man in a blue suit, and a young woman next to him in one of the screenshots from the episode.
"Yeah, maybe," Ashleigh said. She pulled one of the pillows from the couch onto her lap. "What's it called?"
"This one's Blink. It's one of my favorites. That guy there is the Doctor, and the girl with him is his companion Martha. This is hands down the best Doctor Who episode ever." Calum smiled. In all honesty, he had seen this episode once, and didn't consider himself a big fan of it. He mainly chose it so that he would have an excuse to hold Ashleigh if she got scared. The first time Calum had watched this episode, Luke had jumped into his arms, so he'd be really luck if Ashleigh were to react in a similar way.
"It sounds pretty good. Go ahead and put it on, I trust your opinion on it." Ashleigh told Calum. She rested her head on Calum's shoulder, and Calum gladly wrapped his arm around her. The movie began to load, and Ashleigh was perched on the edge of her seat.
"What is she doing? It clearly says Do Not Enter; Beware; No Trespassing." Ashleigh yelled at the TV as the protagonist, Sally Sparrow, jumped the fence into a private property.
Calum laughed, and pulled Ashleigh back into the chair. She crossed her arms, and pouted in her rage about the show. "I see you've gotten really into it," Calum said.
"I tend to do that," Ashleigh told him. "Now shut up, I can't hear the film over the sound of your annoying voice."
"That's so mean," Calum pouted. "Don't be mean to me, Ashleigh. I'm the guest."
Ashleigh picked up a couch cushions and hit Calum's head. "Shut up and watch the movie."
