This is the most important mission of your life. Come on, you can't mess this one up,
you say to yourself as you get ready for takeoff.

You had always loved to fly, ever since your dad, also a pilot, took you up in his plane. Ever since he died in an accident, this was the only way you could still feel his presence.

"Okay, Major (Y/N), are you ready for takeoff?" The flight commander asked, a slight worry in his tone.

"I was born for this."

This was everything you had been waiting for your whole life, all the challenges you faced to get to the Air Force led up to this moment. You were flying solo for the first time.

"All systems are a go. I have the coordinates set in; clear the runway."

You thought of everything you faced to get here. How many men had told you that you wouldn't succeed. It felt so good to prove them wrong. You had never given in to what anyone told you. This is why all of your relationships only lasted a matter of weeks. There was no one who could dominate your unbending will.

As the propeller started to turn, you positioned your plane on the runway perfectly, and started to increase speed, until the moment that filled you with complete joy every time. As the wheels of the plane lifted from the ground, you couldn't help but smile.

"Hi, Dad."

You could almost hear him, guiding me, telling me which levers to pull and where to steer. It was effortless. You had always had a natural talent for flying, and it was something you never had to try at.

Through your headset, you could hear,"Ok, Major (Y/L/N), let's bring it back down." You landed the plane perfectly, and could hear your flight trainer's applause through the comms.
