~Y/N's POV~

You woke up wondering where you were.

Not physically, but emotionally and psychologically. What were you doing as an Avenger? Did you deserve to be there? Why was Tony trying to protect you, while he was really just hurting you more?

Why did he seem to think that I was worthless?

Your throbbing head and anxious mind greatly contrasted the peaceful farm. There was no time here, no hurry. Even the birds appeared to be in a lazy, worry-free state. Meanwhile, a group of geniuses and gods were putting their lives on the line to save the world from extinction. And you couldn't even be there.

You looked over at the box on your bedside table that housed your suit. Tony told you that he programmed it so that you couldn't leave. Even though he was a genius, his arrogance sometimes got the best of him. He knew you had minored in computer science in college, but apparently he underestimated you.

Men have been doing that to me for as long as I can remember, you thought. Time to prove them wrong once again.

After about 30 minutes, you chuckled as you were finally able to hack through the firewall into the GPS database for the suit. It was all yours now. Time to kick Ultron's ass.

Putting on the suit felt way more comfortable than it did the first time, but it occurred to you that you still didn't really know how to work it that well.

"Jarvis, set course for the Avengers Compound."

The AI responded only by lifting you off the ground in what you assumed was the right direction.

"No more damsel in distress for me," you said to yourself, a grin on your face.

~

When you arrived at the Compound, you took only about an hour or so to use Tony's training room to get to know the suit a little better. Probably better to do that than to die while trying to kill an army of robots.

You learned how to fire the repulsors, fly at a controlled rate, and even play music inside the suit. (What? It's a necessity!)

Once you felt proficient at it, you set course again for Sokovia. Hopefully it wasn't too late.

As you looked down from thousands of feet up in the sky, you felt a sense of clarity in your problems. They were so insignificant, so you weren't really mad at Tony anymore. You just wanted to prove him wrong. Then maybe go out to dinner with him.

Screw you, Tony. Both literally and figuratively, if you know what I mean.

As you came nearer to Sokovia, you noticed two things:

1. You could start to hear all the Avengers yelling at each other though the comms. They sounded like a group of dysfunctional little kids. What a bunch of a-holes.

2. The city was flying. I repeat: the city was flying.

You had to do a double take before your brain was able to process what your eyes were seeing, and it still didn't sink in. Even when you did a super cool superhero landing, right next to Steve.

"You're not supposed to be here!" he shouted while fighting off a robot.

"Yeah, we'll just don't tell Tony. He's being a big baby right now."

"Okay, Y/N." he paused for a second, hesitant of his decision to go against his friend's wishes. "It's good to have you back, kid."

"Just because you belong in an old folks home doesn't mean you get to call everyone kid, you know."

Steve shook off the comment and got back to fighting while you took off to go help Wanda in the center of the city. The rescue airships had already arrived and everyone was evacuated for the most part.

We just had to make sure Ultron didn't get his hands on the vibranium that was keeping this floating island from becoming a dinosaur-extinction-sized meteor.

So that's why Ultron kept talking about meteors.

Wanda was didn't really seem like she needed your help, but you stayed with her anyways. Literally five minutes ago, she was one of the bad guys. They should make a show called Keeping Up with the Avengers. That would make this whole thing a lot easier.

"You know, I'm glad you joined our side. The right side. I would've hated to have to kick your butt."

"Oh, really? You know I can move things with my mind, right?" Wanda said as she threw red energy clusters at incoming Ultrons.

You chuckled and replied, "I hope you brought your sunscreen!" You said as your bright repulsors reflected off of Ultron's metal body and around the now-demolished church building.

"Y/N, why the hell do I hear your voice right now?!"

Uh oh. Tony.

"Uh, it's your conscience. We don't talk much these days."

"Very funny. Point break and I are going to blow this popsicle stand. Literally. So you and Wanda should get out while you still can."

"But who wouldn't want to stay on a floating rock thousands of feet up in the air while it explodes and reaches terminal velocity as it crashes down back to the earth? Sounds like a blast!"

Tony's eyeroll could even be heard through the comms.

"Yeah, yeah. Fine." you replied, just to keep him from having a heart attack. "Come on, Wanda. Let's go."

"Wait! Pietro and Clint! They're still here!" Wanda said.

"I'll swing by and make sure they're ok on my way out."

Vision suddenly appeared and grabbed Wanda before you even had the chance. Guess you were stuck with the boys.

Pietro and Clint didn't even need your help; they were already on one of the safety rafts before you could fly to them. Pietro was running around, handing supplies and first aid to the last civilians to get on the ships.

You hovered in the air, watching the town turn to rubble. As it crashed down to Earth, you thought about how this was your life now. You had learned much as a pilot, but it never would've prepared you for this. The destruction, the terror, the threat. The death.

How could any human (or Asgardian) be prepared for this? How was this magnitude of danger and duty supposed to be placed on 6 people?

Your thoughts were interrupted by something flying at you. Extremely fast.

"Y/N, you're in really big trouble," Tony said as he buzzed past you.

You took that as an invitation for a race, and was able to catch up to him after a few minutes. Your suit was newer, after all.

As if to egg him on, you said, "Oh, yeah? And what will my punishment be?"

"You'll see."
