Soaring through the air at the speed of sound, miles high from the ground, in a small metal suit was actually one of the most peaceful things you have ever experienced in your life. Tony barely said a word as he flew next to you, maintaining a comfortable silence for almost the whole way back. He only made about 3 sarcastic comments in the time that it took to get back to the compound, which should be a record.
Although you had made yourself comfortable in the Avengers building, coming home felt different. Hundreds of employees from who knows where rushing along the varying floor levels, each containing their own special job. It was hard to find any peace and quiet, so you decided to head to the roof. Hopefully no one would bother you there.
As you opened the door, the fresh New York air hit your nose and lungs. For the first time in what seemed like forever, you breathed a sigh of relief. You could see Tony, Steve, and Thor walking along the front lawn, likely laughing at something Tony said. Then, with a flash of light, Thor was gone, only leaving a large intricate burn mark on the grass.
Turning around to head back to the compound, Tony and Steve glanced up at you. They continued talking, and assumed it was about you, but with them, anything was possible. Lying face up on the cold metal roof, you watched the clouds slowly pass by, unable to fully process the gods and geniuses that were directly underneath you at that exact moment. Even with all that strength and power they possessed, you felt safe.
After several minutes of doing absolutely nothing, the door opened and out came Tony, Steve, Natasha, Wanda, Clint, Vision, and Pietro. (That's right he's still alive y'all!) They each brought varying items: food, drinks, a picnic blanket, along with other things.
Natasha brought pillows for Steve to sit on, saying she didn't want his "old man back" to get hurt on the hard floor. Rolling his eyes, he gave Natasha a grin, kissing her on the cheek.
You rested your head on Tony's shoulder after he complained that he was cold, and you got mad at him for his shoulder being too bony.
Wanda held up a blue box. "All the pop-tarts are still in the package! Did no one want to eat them?"
"Thor's the only one that likes them, so I guess we should just save them for him," Steve suggested.
"Even if he didn't come back to Earth for another 3 years, they would still not be expired!" Pietro said with a laugh, which started a whole rant from Clint about how preservatives are bad for his children back home.
After a couple of hours, and more than a couple drinks, Tony and Clint thought it would be fun to shove Steve off the roof. After doing that about a hundred times without giving Steve a scratch, they finally gave up. Tony almost shoved Clint off the roof, but you gently reminded him that he isn't a super soldier and that he would probably die.
"Only one way to find out," he replied. "Hey Katniss, wanna find out?"
After Wanda threatened to mind control him again, Tony sat back down, claiming he was only joking. He most definitely wasn't.
All the couples were paired up, cuddling together. Natasha and Steve, you and Tony, Wanda and Vision. The only ones who didn't have someone were Pietro and Clint, who joked about being 7th and 8th wheels.
Looking at Clint, Pietro said, "At least you have a wife, man. I have no one."
"So what am I now, chopped liver?" Wanda said, exchanging a small smile.
The conversation was light, the evening peaceful. You had finally found your family.
Everyone sat up on the roof for hours, only going back into the building when it got too dark and cold to stay.
