I woke up to the obnoxious sound of an alarm. I hit the off button on the clock and started getting ready. I put on my black leggings, plain white shirt, softball hoodie, and black and white adidas. I put my hair in two french braids today. I checked my phone to see a text from Alexis. It read, "Morning! I wanna get to school early to see what teams we got on before there is a huge crowd. If you want to walk with me we are leaving at 8:15. I'll be at the park till then so I'm not waiting. Love you!"

I looked at my clock and realized it was 8:05. "crap." I muttered to myself. I grabbed my bag, gear bag, and extra practice clothes in case I made the team. I ran downstairs and got some toast.

"Mom! I'm leaving. I might be home later if I make the team, bye love you." I called out before walking out of the house.

"Ok. Bye love you!" I heard her yell.

I had 5 minutes till Alexis was leaving so I had to hurry up. I got to the park right at 8:15. I saw Alexis start to leave so I screamed at her.

Alex! Wait up!" I called out.

She turned around and slowed her pace a bit until I caught up to her, then she continued her normal speed.

"Hey Liz! How are you?" She was being weird. Normally shes's picky and annoyed asking me, where ya been, or, what took you so long?

"A bit nervous, but I'm fine. How about you?"

"I'm nervous too. We didn't finish our topic last night." She was being sneaky about something and I could tell.

"So?" I hated that topic. I didn't want to tell her I had a crush on someone and hurt her feelings because she liked the same person. She has yet to tell me who she likes so I can't try to play it safe and not say him.

"So, I need to know about your love life. Who do you like?" She is so pushy.

"Fine! I like Jaxson." I said then covered my mouth because I couldn't believe I just said that. Alexis stopped right in her tracks.

I looked back at her confused. She looked me in the eyes and looked apologetic for some reason.

"What's up? You ok Alex?" I am so confused.

"I'm sorry I didn't know!" She looked like she was about to cry. I walked back to her and hugged and said everything was ok even though I din't know what was happening.

"What are you sorry for?" I was now more confused than ever.

"Jaxson asked me out and I said yes. If I knew you liked him I wouldn't have done it. I'll break up with him today. I'm so sorry. Can you forgive me?"

"Oh. Don't be sorry, and don't break up with him. If he liked me he would've asked me out instead of you so you should be with him. I am just a bit upset you didn't tell me sooner, so to make up for it, I get to pick out your outfit for your first or next date."

I was honestly a little hurt but it wasn't her fault. We continued walking until we got to the sports board. We both glanced at each other before looking at the board.

"Are you nervous?" She asked.

"Yes!" I said in a 'duh' tone. "You?"

"Of course! Ok. On three we look. 1...2...3!"

We both looked at the board. I looked for my name but couldn't find it at first.

"I made JV! Yay!" Alexis exclaimed, very happy. "What team did you make? Varsity?" She asked.

"I don't know. I haven't found my name yet." I answered truthfully. I was scared I din't make any team. Alexis started helping me look. I think we both found  my name at the same time then looked at each other.

"Freshman?" I said. I was sad we weren't on the same team and sad I wasn't as good as her.

"Well, at tryouts it did look like you weren't doing as good as usual. So freshman is what you showed at tryouts." She was being such a jerk right now.

"Just because you got a higher team than I did doesn't give you the right to be mean to me! I tried my best! Yesterday just wasn't my day!" I tried to stand up for myself.

"Well I guess it wasn't good enough, was it then. Bye Elizabeth. I'm going to hang out with my team. See you around, freshman."

"Ugh. Jerk." I was so mad at her. How could she be so mean to me? We were best friends since second grade when we started playing softball together.

Sadly, now I found out that softball brought us together, now it's tearing us apart.
